I am in the works of creating the Farsight Enclaves "Eight" and was looking for some nice name plates for the sides of their bases. I have seen people paint character names on the sides of their bases and stuff like that, but my freehand (and handwriting) is not nearly nice enough for the quality I want.

A friend of mine said it might be possible using letter punches and alluminium, now I have a few concerns with this myself (letters not being alligned correctly, and the punch creating dents that will hinder it from glueing to the base).

Today I thought of maybe getting some etched brass nameplates done, however I cant find any sites that would do them 3-4mm high max. Also Im not sure if you could bend an etched brass nameplate to fit a 40k base (40mm, 60mm and oval).

Does anyone have experience creating nameplates and could share some knowledge? Pictures of work you did is also highly appreciated!

Any idea where I could get them done small enough to fit to the side of a base though? (googline around for a bit myself, smallest I found was 1/2" by 2")

Have you considered letraset transfers? Not as swaggity as brass, but easily sourced and cheap.

IT could be easily done with brass if you figure out the curvature first.

Cheapest option would be to just paint it on properly.

Or make a stencil or decal

a Silver paint marker works well to get nice lines in.

Frankly, I think that making little signs or ways to incorporate the names of the "8" on the models would look a lot better. Like a sign on a base or something like that. buts thats just my 2cents

He painted up a group of Pre-Heresy Emperor's Children and put nameplates on each one, I'd ask him what he used for them

Stickers could work

They definitely do look like stickers.

I was planning to print stuff out on paper, use transfer paper to push the outlines to the bases, then painting in the lines.

It is freehand without the freedom to stuff it up

Just use the same punches by pressing them into slightly cured green stuff. Its flexible, moldable, and if you bend it around the base before you do the lettering, the letters wont stretch.

I recommend getting some paper that allows you to print custom stickers, or better yet, waterslide transfers. Cut them out carefully all all you have to do is stick them on straight, no significant manual dexterity requires. My freehand is dreadful too and I've been meaning to try something like this.

The stickers idea actually led me to try this. They are 9mm high, with the letters being 3-4mm. So just a little too big for a regular base, but I think I will use them regardless.
