Subject: Total War: Warhammer receives official announcement trailer!
After receiving a tease in the artbook early this year, the creative assembly has decided that now it is time to officially announce the coming of the Total War formula to the Warhammer Fantasy setting.
Though at first Total War Rome 2 would have made me think that while the game would be great, it would be plagued by a terrible launch, Total War Attila has done much to restore my faith in the Creative Assembly to give us both a great game and a great tribute to Warhammer fantasy.
So four playable races are immediately confirmed with Chaos also being present. Going from Total War Rome 2 and Attila's examples, there's almost certainly going to be more factions playable later on.
Given that Total war is at heart, a grand strategy game with married to an in depth war gam and that the formula is pretty much going to allow players to bring their faction (and everyone else) to very ahistorical places, I'm sure this will allow people to live out their "this is what should have happened!"s of the series, in this case like having the Empire break Archaon's horde over its knee and conquering the whole of the old world with a good enough player, it's going to be alternate continuity from the second you press start anyway.

I remember when this was just a dream. And now it's real. So, beautifully real. I don't even care if it has a Rome 2 style release, this is a game that has needed to happen for a long time.
And with the way Rome II and Attila look, I imagine I'll be playing this game for a long, LONG time.
Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Orcs and Goblins are playable from day one as one of the four starting factions, the others will be unlocked as playable in the grand campaign map (though I think in Rome 2 the factions yet to be made playable in the grand campaign were fully playable in multiplayer battles) later on with DLC. Given CA's track record; the most heavily demanded ones will be released as free DLC pretty quickly once they can code in voicelines, special endings, and other stuff going by the Seleucid Empire's example. So things like Skaven and Lizardmen will probably follow shortly.
As far as I can tell, the "leader" character of the playable Orcs here is none other than Grimgor.

I don't think Chaos is included in the main game. I don't remember where I read it, I think it was at Beasts of War, but Orcs, Dwarves, Empire and Vampires are in the base game, with two expansions to add more.

From the wording of that interview posted it seems that Chaos; while major, isn't playable in the current build and plays the role that a lot of people thought the huns would when Total War Attila was announced.
That may change during development though if people show enough interest in making CA ask Sega to hold the release back a bit to add some more playable factions for the launch.

They're not playable, but the other factions are still on the map like how at launch, Total War Rome 2 had a large number of factions on the map you couldn't play as. They seem to be set up as the overall great threat throughout the game and then suddenly splurge forth when least convenient like the Huns do in Total War Attila. But unlike in current canon, you probably can beat Archaon's face in and avert the end times by piledriving the Legions of Chaos into oblivion.
Also: Anyone notice how the Orc on the boar (Grimgor I believe) in the trailer is depicted as having whites to his eyes instead of the traditional monochromatic eyes? I thought that was pretty neat.

Can we chose what color our armies are? Because that's really the whole reason I play WHFB in the first place.
All jokes aside, I may actually pick this up when it comes out.
Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

Interesting. I don't have the investment in fantasy I do 40K, so this doesn't really bother me.

I really like the look of the cinematic lets hope the Total WAr guys will be able to kick some major arse and hopefully be a good Triple A game release.

I think Day 1 DLC will be either Chaos Warriors or High (possibly all three versions of the elves) Elves with the first paid DLC being the one which was not the first day DLC.

Not going to lie, Pre-ordering and buying all the DLC they release for this. Love me some Warhammer and everything in the Total War franchise, excluding the Kingdom Pay2win thing that just came out.

As long as they don't ruin it like they did with Rome 2, I'm up for it.
Not pre-ordering this time tho. I learnt my lesson.

The problem with pre-orders mostly being the content is only partially there and bugs and crashes are a lot bigger. I'm learning my lessons with Mordheim and esp. Galactic Civilizations 3 (even though gal civ 3 is mostly done now and is infinitely better than it was when it hit beta). Just so you get an idea a good chunk of the Galactic Civilizations 3 tech tree is grayed out esp. the top tier stuff.
I may just pre-order this game anyway because i'm a huge warhammer fantasy buff. It's too bad skaven aren't in there but vampire counts are also another faction i've been interested in. Also if they have empire engineer's releasing pidgeon bombs, steam tanks, war machine empire and then all the goofy weapons of greenskins (fanatics, mangler squigs, various squig units, the arachnorok, spider riders and mostly the goblin units and war machines).
So it could be a blast but skaven should get some love. Perhaps when 9th edition hits skaven will be one of the first army books and then creative assembly will release skaven in a much more full condition.

Perhaps the biggest pre-order fail I've ever experienced- Mortal Kombat X was a complete dog's breakfast. I ordered a hard copy to avoid downloading it, and what did I get for my trouble? 32 day 1 updates of about 60GB altogether in size to download on my mediocre broadband connection of 4.5mbps. I'm going to wait on this one until I know it's bloody safe to play lol.
I was originally very hyped after watching the video, now how ever I am extremely disappointed by the lack of announced playable WoC. I want it, but I'll sit by and see what else they announce.

Hey folks you know that part where the dwarfs are showed off and a column is displayed with runes. I've partially decrypted it and this is what it says to the best of my abilities.
Blood and Beards (or T(D)ron)
Fire and War
Dun (I almost want to put Doom) I(A)nu

I'll bet ten rand on "I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole" being referenced somewhere in the game.
