Question. Is the narrating mage in the trailer supposed to be Van Horstmann?

I dunno, CA hasn't said anything about that yet.

I'm not gonna lie, the trailer looks good and exciting and things.

But, can you imagine by the time it comes out?

"Mummy, mummy, I wanna play Warhammer, the dwarfs and Empire are sooooo coool. Can we go to the Warhammer store and buy some."

"Nope, sorry, Dwarfs, Empire? We killed them off. That planet you were playing on in the computer game? Nah, we blew that up."

Some people are hoping the hype and new players it introduces makes GW basically reintroduce the old world rather than any bubble world shenanigans.

The Steam page for the game (which is up already) mentions that there will be two additional stand-alone products following in the heels of this one, for a three-product set-up. So I'm guessing two direct sequels, that might be compatible with the original game.

I'm guessing Elves are the focus of one of the products (all three nations are conspicuously absent from the announcement). Chaos seems a decent (though not certain) bet for the other one.

Going by CA's business model, you probably aren't going to get any save transfer features like you'd get in Paradox Interactive games, rather they'd basically be totally separate campaigns with some new mechanics like Total War: Shogun 2's Rise and Fall of the Samurai thing or how Total War: Attila/Barbarian Invasion were to their respective Rome games.

The other factions are said to be coming as DLC.

Yeah, my guess is that you're right regarding lack of save transfer, or anything similar. By compatibility, I'm guessing that they'll be multi-player compatible.

Haven't seen any statements regarding DLC, so anything I say about that is a wild guess.

Perhaps the biggest pre-order fail I've ever experienced- Mortal Kombat X was a complete dog's breakfast. I ordered a hard copy to avoid downloading it, and what did I get for my trouble? 32 day 1 updates of about 60GB altogether in size to download on my mediocre broadband connection of 4.5mbps. I'm going to wait on this one until I know it's bloody safe to play lol.

PC, I assume? You always have to be careful buying a port of another developer's game. Sorry to hear it turned out that way.

On topic, I've never liked RTS, but I think I'll be buying this. I'd love to see Dark Elves or Skaven added!

Kingdom Death Fanatic. Dark Eldar: Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Dark Elves: Allegiance to the Black Crown. Also, Masons, Cygnar, and Legion of Everblight. All unnamed.

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.

Total war is in a fairly weird place genre wise, but I think those two will be in at the start as NPCs on the campaign map, and as playable factions in multiplayer. But given the demand for them I do think that them being made playable for the campaign is largely inevitable.

It'd make sense to me to have High Delves v dark elves v lizard men v skaven as an Attila-ish style expansion set.

Actually, the 2 sequels are supposed to work in the same way that Fall of the Samurai Works for Shogun 2, in that you can buy them and play them by themselves, but for the complete experience you need all 3.

I'm expecting a lot of DLC for the first campaign irregardless.

Gonna take a stab in the dark here. I'm thinking its Archaon, or rather the unnamed priest who became Archaon.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Well that would be impossible because he's not a priest, he's a Heirophant. A mage of the order of light.

They could still be taking some artistic license.

Archaon was around long before the End Times.

Archaon was around long before the End Times.

He canonically sat around and twiddled his thumbs between the times he proved himself as everchosen and the storm of chaos/end times.

And the full trailer is coming later in July...Another month of frothing at the mouth!

I also heard in an interview that all but the VC are finished for the game for the playable races. But the other races IDK at this time.

Any race that is in the game at launch won't be tough to implement as a playable race eventually. The code would all exist for their units and production, it just needs to get enabled.

Mini interview

Apparently each faction will play differently (gasp!)

Larger interview

Reasonably interesting although I think that the 'grand campaign' will be too heavily scripted for my taste. Hopefully it is easily modable.

Let me necro this because they released some gameplay footage. get a little worried with the dragon fight as you have a whole unit standing around with only one person fighting the dragon.

I dunno, when I think of Black Fire Pass I think of soldiers fighting in close formation at the smallest point in the canyon, like the battle at Thermopylae with the Spartans and Greeks against the Persians. That just looks like a regular pitched battle in a historical location.

Of course, I'm going to buy the game regardless of anything I might say against their advertising. I decided that before I knew it existed.

Well, many things I hoped would be in the game have been confirmed.

Agents which also function as combat heroes.

Awesome spells.

Dynamic flying and ground combat.

Anyone notice the priest's transformation in the trailer is somewhat similar to Archaon's? According to the 8th edition Warriors of Chaos book, Archaon was a devout priest of Sigmar. He tried searching through a heretical tome to find a way to stop chaos, but when he read the tome, he uncovered some unknown truth that made him renounce Sigmar and his own name for Chaos. Maybe Archaon will be the antagonist?

Faithful... Enlightened... Ambitious... Brethren... WE NEED A NEW DRIVER! THIS ONE IS DEAD!
