I am looking for a basic Skeleton miniature. I would prefer skeletons that have a Dark Ages feel to them, and not the "Ancient Greek, Egyptian," or late Medieval. (Or "Swords & Sorcery" - I will need those later, some to think of it, so feel free to recommend them as well)

And, so far, all I can find are Otherworld Miniatures, and Wargames Factory (and for 25mm skeletons, the Iron Wind Metals Skeletons, which used to be the Ral Partha Skeletons - these are kinda difficult to paint, as I used to have about 200 of them).

The Wargames Factory look to have "Ancient Greek" weapons and shields.

But I can have hundreds of round, Dark Ages Shields made pretty cheaply (or buy them). And typical swords and spears aren't hard to come by.

These would be for Sauron's Dol Guldur Army. So, I pretty much only need about 200 of them (four units of twelve bases, with four skeletons per base. Or 48 skeletons per unit).

If there are any more "Swords & Sorcery" styled Skeletons, which would work with the Iron Winds Metals "Throne of Bone" for a Hyborian Necromancer Army (I have an awesome Sorceror on a Litter that would be good with that army as well). I need to figure out what the Sorceror on the Litter is going to be controlling (undead or evil army wise).

So.... Skeleton, and undead suggestions (any undead will do, as long as they have a Dark Ages, or Sword & Sorcery feel to them.... And are not the LotR Army of the Dead).

I would also suggest ebay for old Citadel ones. I have picked up the Nightmare Legion (by far my favourite undead minis) 3 times for reasonable prices as well as other lots of metal skellies.

Mantic do some good ones. Not sure how closely they fit your therne, but they're nicely proportioned and the value is great:

They also have Zombies and Armoured Skeletons (Revenants) in plastic and Wights, Mummies and Skeleton Horsemen in restic/PVC.

I am fond of the Mantic skeletons - they have proportions that would actually fit inside of a human body.... (No huge hands, feet, and heads!)

Mantic also had one of the best lich figures that I have seen - with a skeleton exploding out of the ground at the lich's command.

Sadly, the lich king is now out of production.

The Mantic skeletons have clothes and armor though, so you have to be cool with that. If you want 'bare bones' skeletons, you need to go with other companies. There are aplenty of them though.

Tale a look at Wargames Factory. Plastic, easy to build, inexpensive, and no clothes. Basically like Mantic skeletons without clothes.

Though they do suffer from 'Huge head Syndrome'. (Like GW, their skellies use the same proportions as a Disney cartoon - which allows them more expression. I just prefer skeletons that would fit inside of bodies.)

Although you're looking at seeing these be available much later this year, Mierce have a bunch of undead fellows for the Darklands game they had funded as part of their recent Kickstarter. These are supposed to represent Dark Age Undead Jutes and are concepts at present:







Obviously depends on how quick you want to get hold of them

My favorite plsatic skeletons in war gaming are the ones from war games factory. They have great detail and no armor so they fit into any fantasy setting.

They come with Greek swords and shields but designed with their historical range in mind for easy weapon swaps. Just pick up a box of anything from dark age vikings to samurai to get the weapons you want.

Even then the Greek swords and shields don't look out of place in most settings. It gives them a Jason and the argonughts feel.

also because the models have open hands you glue the weapons into, they make perfect base decorations. I keep a box of them on hand just for that reason.

These would be GREAT for the Hyboria based army. Not so much the Middle-earth one. I don,t like the paint scheme they have chosen, but that, fortunately, is not a part of the miniatures I would be buying.

I will be getting these. They look like they might work for both Middle-earth AND Hyboria.

The Northmen of Rhovanion were similar to the Jutes; at least similar enough that undead Jutes would be acceptable.

Mierce make some awesome miniatures, but they are usually so specialized that they only fit into narrow genres.
