As much as I also was rooting for Pac to win; I'd have to say the decision was fair. Can't hate on Mayweather for "playing the game according to its rules". Oh well...

Not to mention that 90% of MMA fights involve a ton of ground game, where one opponent sits on top of the other and tries to wrestle him. Now who's cuddling?

Boxers usually cuddle to get some rest which is just stupid to even be allowed. If you're exhausted, then surrender. MMA fighters "cuddle" because it's a safe way to win the fight / get points. The grip vastly differs. You grip your enemy to make him surrender, not to get some rest in.

You forgot the 40 minutes of hype before the fight.

Hasn't this always been his tactic and how he won a lot of his fights?

You forgot to add star power. The guy fighting Lomachencko in the undercard was repeatedly warned for holding when he got in trouble, the same was not true for Mayweather.

"Safe way to win the fight" = still cuddling and a wuss move. I'd take holding in boxing over two grown men trying to get to 2nd base

No. But then again, the Penny Arcade guys do strike me as two individuals that would throw around the word "sportsball."

It isn't that far off though. The last pro MMA guy I saw that could throw a decent punch was Chuck Liddell, and age killed him; Rampage had the same star power buff that Mayweather did.

Conor McGregor is a pretty damn competent striker. I'd happily see him in either arena against Mayweather, though it would only be fair in one.

Lots of his big strikes come from kicks, though. He gets TKOs due to punches, for the most part, because those were the last strikes he landed. He does have a hell of a spinning back kick though.

That's a really good point.

I think in-his-prime Machida could have competently fought against another light heavyweight. Same with in-his-prime Spider. And Rumble looks pretty damn good on his feet lately.

I'm trying to think of others right now, and I can't come up with a ton off the top of my head. A lot of them are adequate + strikers that excel in another area. Mostly because being an elite striker only in MMA doesn't seem to get you wins.

Machida was always kick focused, punches primarily came on the ground. I will grant you Spider, but after he got his title he basically turned into the MMA version of Mayweather. I haven't seen Rumble fight.

Well, yeah. If all you can do is strike you'll just get zoned out and taken to ground. Liddell was special in that he had knock-out power while falling backwards, and could use that to avoid takedowns; most MMA guys can't do that.

Hehe...this pretty much encapsulates why I find MMA unwatchable. I have no question about the talent of the sports top athletes or the validity of the sport itself, occasionally a cool highlight reel is produced, and there is obviously some exciting action going on in some few moments of an MMA event that produces those highlights, but the excessive holding and grappling, and holding and grappling some more, then holding and grappling, makes most fights unbearably dull.

Now if they banned holding and grappling from MMA, they might be on to something, but then wouldn't it basically be kickboxing?
