So, in a few short months, I will be moving and will not have an LGS to go to regularly. When I do move in, I won't have a lot of space either. Does anyone know of a DIY blog or something else I might not have thought of where I could learn how to build a table that folds neatly into a corner when not in use?

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

One of my friends had a similar problem, he made a 4x6 board that went over his table, the board was some plywood done as a gameboard with texture and all that fun stuff for a desert board, that sits on his table. When it's not in use, I think he puts it behind the couch, or in a closet.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

I just have two dresser drawers that I place all of mine and just made sure they all can fit in it.

I've made a few 2x2 tiles out of a 25 dollar piece of plywood from Lowes A little glue, 2 cans of 99 cent spray, some sand from the yard and some flock and you are in business for less than 40 bucks. It's so easy.

Or try secret weapon tablescapes. Like a ROB but cheaper.

Tiles are the way to go, IMO. If you minimize the height of any permanently modeled features, you can easily stack them up for storage. The modular nature also allows you greater flexibility in table layout, should you include things like roads, rivers, etc. If you have a large enough surface, elsewhere (kitchen table, living room floor (if you're willing ), etc.), you don't need to worry about supporting it, at all. If not, a cheap folding table (even a sheet of plywood on sawhorses) is a rather compact option that's readily available.

I've seen all sorts of other designs (folding, etc.), but even if they're easier to move aside than a solid table structure, they're invariably heavier and bulkier than tiles on a folding (or existing, general use) table.

[edit:] P.S. - That's a pretty sweet little table, Strombones!

Ye was thinking the same thing. I need to make a gaming table, but would be worried about crap getting squished. I think the way will be to make a whole load of terrain to go with it. GW style.

If you do find a how-to i'd like to see it just for funs.

Greetings!

I made an account just to reply to your question. I had a hell of a time finding a solution for myself so I hope this helps.

I have a very small house but I do have a garage I could use as a workshop. I was able to build my own drop-leaf play table in the garage in a single day. When the table is collapsed it takes up 4'x32"x18" or there about and has 2 large internal shelves for holding terrain pieces. My only complaint is that the table top bends a bit if you lean on it. I'm not worried about it breaking but there's just a bit more flex in it than I'd like. I may re-engineer it a bit this summer but it works great as it is.

well, there is my summer project this year. Any chance you could PM me some measurements/ dimensions for me to try this myself? Thank you so much!
