Had a hard time today against massed S6+ long-range shooting. Broadsides were out of range much of the time. Riptide did ok but did not win his points back after being bbq'd by Wraithguard. Did even dent the Wraithknight and bikes + warwalkers + guide was bad news for any of my suits. Any suggestions on how to adapt a Tau list to beat Eldar? I've had a hard time against them. Thanks!!

Stealth Suits could do well against the Jetbikes, being able to Infiltrate and have a cover save that will be tought to get through .
Wraiths are a little trickier. Riptide and Broadsides should do well against Wraithguard. Wraithknight...ehh it's undercosted as heck so do what you can, HYMP, Seeker Missiles, Rail Rifles, whatever. I guess Kroot could tarpit for a turn or two, just be wary of stomps.

Ignore the WK the same weay people ignore Riptide. Just send it some juicy but cheap stuff to occupy it.

The bikes need stuff that kill marines and ignores cover. I think plasma crisis are good for that.

The wraithguards... how is your opponent using them? If walking, just don't be near them. If by Wave Serpents, destroy them outright. If by Archon and WWP... just accept something of yours will die.

Skyrays would be a pretty good option as well especially backed up by marker lights. Granted he may make a few FNP saves but most army lists are only going to have one or 2 tops due to restrictions either in tournaments, tax from other portions of the detachment ect.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

funny no? how eldar seem to be able to out shoot Tau? and despite this, us Tau players are still going to be stigmatized for using our CC avoidance tactics even though space elves can do it better?
Sorry, just a bit coffee (I mean bitter). I could see eighth doing away with the ally matrix if this sort of thing keeps up.

as to your question. Shadowsun could be useful, as her stealth and shrouded are conferred to the unit that she is with, farsight's bomb could be employed - 14 fusion blasters to a WK's face could deter one?
Personally, I enjoy including Culexus assassins, maybe an assassin of your own? Possibly a vindicaire, with its str10 AP1 72" shot with ignores cover?

GW will never get rid of allies again. Sells too many models. If your broadsides are out of range I wonder if you aren't placing objectives as efficiently as possible. You kind of have to force him to get into range.

How is that remotly related to tau?

In any case, there is no "answer" to eldar, because they liturally has everything from fliers, GMCs, jetbike spam, superelites shooters, assault units, decent tanks and anything in between.

You really got no way of know what to expect.

Beyond that, jetbikes have no real answer. nothing in the tau codex can compare to them, they out-shoot and out-endure the crisis suits, out-manuver the broadsides and do both against most other things.
IA riptides can hurt them, but its brutally inefficient either. and ionheads can put out decent pain, but still have to handle jetbike mobility somehow.

The suggested stealth suits? don't bother. compared to the jetbikes they do less damage, at less range, and with less durability. infiltration is pointless when you can't actually beat the target you infiltrate towards.

Best answer to jetbikes might be drones, and other carbine wielders. throwing some pinning checks around may help nurture the threat a bit.

As for the wraithknight...S5 spam works good enough, 18 hits is a failed save. S7 spam also not too bad, 9 hits per failed save.
Ionheads again do some work. (in fact, ionheads work wonders against any army with sortage of Sv2+) ignoring his armor and all.
Railguns still suffer from not putting enough hits.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

On topic: I think Skyrays will really help a lot. They are already IMHO one of our better choices to take in the heavy slot alongside Broadsides. So maybe more of those!

Bikes are immune to pinning.

I almost think an HBC riptide would do the trick on the bikes. Until it kills itself cause your gonna want to charge up every turn. But it'll put out some pain, especially once you start hitting the 6's for rending.

Moving Soon

Plop down a squad of targetlocked Railsides with missile drones and a support commander to back them up. For even more fun, toss them behind an Aegis with a quad gun and have a shield drone man that puppy at BS 5.

Spread your fire, out-dakka the annoying units and ignore their jink saves. For even more fun, give them the Plasma rifles and the jetbikes won't want to come within 24 inches.

As far as the WK everyone is so afeared of, drop a squad of suits with Plasma and/or FB and a C&C node/PENC. Add a commander to add to the dakka.
