I was wondering if it is, in terms of lore, strictly set in stone that Eldar rangers have to have chameoline cloaks. In their codex entry that specific color is mentioned when physically describing them and the Path of the Outcast, however the Path of the Outcast is not as rigid as the other paths right? Asking because I would like to say my army completely fits in fluff wise, seeing as how I painted my rangers a brown darker than chameoline.

Chamoline's color depends on what the are in front of, so if they are in front of dark brown you are A-ok.

Forge that narrative.

I'm assuming the color would go with what they were doing, dark green or brown one for a jungle planet. Not really too sure about this though.

I'm pretty sure it means the cloak has a chameleon affect. So it fits. Unless you know a way to actually paint a chameleon effect.. If so you should have done that instead.

It's a made-up word. Doesn't exist in any English dictionary I can find. Oxford doesn't have it, it's not a word as far as I'm concerned.

So all we have to base what it looks like off of is the description in the wargear section of the books. Look there, and you'll find what it should look like.

Chameoline means they shift colour to match the enviroment. so go nuts. if they're pink? hey! they where deployed to Barbie Dreamlandia

Chameleoline is a thing, not a colour.

It's a mutable camouflage thing - that takes on colours from around it (an active unpowered camouflage kind of thing).

It can be green, brown, snow-white, grey or black, or even purple as the situation needs.

In RT, space marine armour even incorporated a mimetic coating that did a similar thing (and was programmable, too. So parade dress, battle dress and camouflage were all options in the fluff).
