Here is my finished piece.

The bottom section of the base, below the main rock, is actually darker than the photo suggests.
I have to admit to being pleased with how the NMM has gone. My next thing is to try this technique on a bigger figure.

I have also entered this on CMoN if you could vote please.

Very helpful.

Something you may wish to try, as I have seen it used to Great Effect is to glaze a metallic over the NMM painted surface when completed.

This gives the surface an even more metallic look, without being really metallic, nor NMM.

It is an effect I am trying to master (again - nearly 20 years of not painting can cause skills to be forgotten), and the very few bits of my Orc Armor where I have achieved the effect is stunning (so far, only on one spear, one helmet, and one section of armor).

But I would like to be able to use the techniques on my own Elves (Last Alliance Spearmen/elves with archers backing them up).

The tutorial you have is pretty helpful.

Interesting thought that, glazing over with a metallic medium. Something I must try.

What did you use for the roots hanging out, as well as those red flowers? Im doing a Wood Elves army and would definitely like to throw some flowers in the mix and those look perfect. The onyl thing I found and using now, are the ones from Army painter.
