Got it today unboxed and such the victory star destroyer is nice but the rebel ships are horribly painted if you could even call it painted.
Also the fighters are cheap as crap looking I expected better for the money in both cases.

Figure the rebel ships can do with bit of a wash just to give them something but the fighters are dreadful looking so will have to go in and paint them up a bit ties will be easy but xwings are in need of completely being done.

This is the first time I have bought anything from this company and have heard when they release gen 2 stuff it will get better. So my question is this yes a question after all the complaints when does wave 1 go on sale as I want to look at the ships in person before I buy them that way if I don't like the paint on them or can't easily fix it I don't buy it. Pictures on the net of the rebel ships basicly lied as far as I am concerned as with most things they looked far better in pictures than in RL.

Am I the only one who thinks this? Are they only really putting effort in to medium ships and above?

I thought the box set was great and the the pre paints on all the ships were plenty fine.

I think it's priced about $10 too high, but who pays retail?

The fighters are fine, IMO, and I wouldn't expect models that small to be pre-paints.

Seriously my rebel ships are utter crap looking the blockade runner particularly the one in the pack looks far better than one I have.

Think its priced about £20 to high

I didn't expect the fighters to be painted but not to look so cheap a plastic and had a fair bit of flash on the xwings which I thought was surprising and the ties panels are all bent at the bottom.

The fighters I could live with but the rebel starships are mince compared to the ones you see online

I actually love the fact the fighters weren't painted. I've painted all of mine now and I think they look good after a bit of paint. As for the Rebel ships all I had to do was a quick wash and they look very good now.

As for price, it's way more then X-Wing, but whatever, I'm happy with my purchase, as soon it will probably be replacing X-Wing for me.

I love Armada but I think the core set MSRP is too high. No complaints about the components however. If they were slightly better painted, I'd still think MSRP was too high. But as cincy mentioned, who pays retail?

They are way to light as if half the wash they used hasn't been applied maybe its me but honestly they look far pailer than the pics.

Will wait till I see the wave one minis in person that way I can see if it worth continuing this game as don't see the point paying the money for models that are below standard or if I just got a bad batch

I admit to not being particularly impressed with the CR90 when I first saw it but I wasn't disappointed either.

Was really looking forward to this game and still am never bothered with xwing as fighters where not my thing.

Will get my first game in tonight well in about an hours time looking forward to it it just the models where disappointing but will add a wash when I have time since I so no my mate will want the empire stuff lol

Will say one thing for it the star destroyer is bigger than I expected it to be not to scale obviously but does have a presence about it

Just finished my first game feckin hell ships are hard to put down and that vst is evil
Game ran 8 turns I know 2 turns longer but turn 6 was just the meat of the battle.
I ended up having my blockade runner fly off the map miss judged but it would have died that turn any way vst had focused fire and the runner had no shields and two hull already off it

Killed all the tie fighters thanks to the good old b managed to get 5 squads in one arc twice and what was left of my xwings killed the remains.

Managed to get the vst down to absolutely no shields and behind it where I spent a lot of the battle let me tell you it still has a kick but the bhad lost front shields and last xwing was down to 1 hull

If the game went on I was dead but the good old b would have went down swinging. The runner did well considering it spent 3 turns getting shot to bits first one was a full frontal from the vst

All in all i enjoyed the game a lot even though I did start to think the vst was a little under priced but will see how the rest of the ships are priced point wise as they come out. Give the game so far 8/10 not sure how the objectives will play that's for next game but rating can go up or down depending on the rest of the ships and objectives

I do.

That being said, I too think it was priced a little too high, especially when you compare it to Imperial Assault in terms of "how much game" you get from one box (I know they are two entirely different game systems, but I think it's a fair assessment). However, I do thoroughly enjoy Armada and find that it satisfies an itch that X-Wing and Imperial Assault don't.

The only itch that Armada scratches for me is "Star Destroyers". The rest of the game is pretty lacklustre for me. I didn't understand how much I missed the opposed dice rolls until they were taken away from me and I was just getting bludgeoned to death every turn.

Some stuff they do and some stuff they don't. GW stuff is always 10% off and other stuff is from time to time as well (for instance, I bought Imperial Assault with a 10% discount).

When new X-Wing releases come out, I always buy at least the first one from my LGS (I've flirted with the idea of picking up a second Armada core set and if I did, I'd probably get it from Amazon). In the end, I care way more about supporting my locally-owned shop than I do about saving a couple of bucks. The owner hosts tons of tournaments (and almost never charges an entry fee, even for Store Championships) and gives an awesome place to play, so it's worth it to me.

I try and do the same. Our LGS gives 10% if you pre-order, 20% off if you pre-order and pre-pay. I usually take that route.

I think you just got a bad batch. My ships look fine. Keep in mind you pay a decent bit for all those cardboard components and plastic dials and stuff, too. Most of FFG's board games run $50-60, going up to $90+ for the larger ones with more components. Cardboard isn't expensive, but it isn't free, and there's clear acrylic plastic dials for every single little fighter squadron. It was this, or cardboard tokens for fighter squadrons, and I'm glad they went the minis route.

I do want some more ships, though. As much as I love humming the Imperial March as I move my VSD around, I would like some variety in my lists.

Fixed the rebel ships looks a lot better now added some earth shade wash.
The cost no matter how you cut it is bit excessive but found a place that will give me £20 off on core set.

I've started painting mine and it is much easier than I thought it would be... just little splashes of color go a long way on them.

The issue is there was a strike at the west-coast ports in the US and everything got backed up. It's not really FFG's fault that their stuff is (or was) sitting in a shipping container somewhere waiting for its turn and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Why would it go from the west coast ports to come to Europe bit of a decked up route unless they where waiting for the models from China

You're assuming a direct shipment from the manufacturing plant to the retailer. It's just as likely to come from the manufacturing plant to Fantasy Flight's HQ in Minnesota and then on to the retailers.

Yep.

Though the rumors from FFG's forums was that the ships carrying Wave 1 headed to Seattle so they were less-crippled by the strike directly, but probably delayed by people re-routing ships north to avoid the snarl-up in California. If you put faith in those Internet rumormongers found over there (who in this case seem to be fairly reliable), the ships were unloaded in late April (the second one supposedly left Seattle on the 25th of April which would imply it was unloaded prior) and the product should be moving through the distribution chain shortly with a likely release next week (that last bit is a bit of inference on my part, so it could be the week of the 18th).

as i said i think the delivery from the place the models was held up as I think they are made in china not the usa but ether way same problem.

just finished having 3 games today of armada and lost twice but one the last game blowing the vst to bits what a good feeling that is watching it burn

but went and ordered a second box set since I can get it at £60 rather than £71 or £80 retail . I hope wave 1 hits next week but can live with end of the month which means wave 2 should be right on its tail unless they push it back a little to the end of the q3

It wasn't a strike, it was a labor dispute that luckily for all parties involved never matured into a strike. But yeah, that wasn't FFG's fault.

Also, a pretty reputable source is saying Armada Wave I is shipping May 12 and should be in your FLGS the following Tuesday.

Let's hope it is
Although I can't say I like the assault frigate at all it looks shockingly bad would rather it was the mk1 assault frigate looks better.

But you get new upgrades for the neb b and the runner in the single packs plus the new fighters might be interesting

Between delays and the shocking pricing Armada is pretty much dead in my area. The boxset gives a very unsatisfying playing experience, so the initial wave of stuff is being missed badly.

My lfgs has tried to maintain interest and has held two tournaments, while the attendance for the 1st was ok it just was not fun. The 2nd did not even reach double figures, when we had 30+ people for the casual x-wing night.

Also lets be honest FFG have never got anything delivered remotely on time without 3rd party intervention being a factor.

I never saw or heard about X-wing till right before wave 2. And I live in Minneapolis (where FFG is headquartered). There were some people playing it but it didn't really explode till the A's, Interceptors, Falcon, and Firespray came out even locally.

Armada will likely do the same considering that in 3 months we might be all the way thru wave 2.

I have the same experience. From what I have heard from folks that started right when X-Wing came out (and as I can guess), playing with two Tie fighters and one X-Wing was a pretty stale experience. But, a year from that point, with the couple of waves of ships and the more options people had, the more the game exploded.

I do see an increased purchase/buy-in point as making Armada a bit more of a slow grower, but given that this is the game many wanted out of X-Wing, I can see it easily overcoming it once ships like the Falcon and Firespray are released with more mid-sized ship options (Wave 2). I think also, with the upcoming movie, it is going to get people psyched up even more to play some major fleet battles (especially if they are rewatching a lot of Return of the Jedi)...

I've played three games of Armada so far and have enjoyed them quite a bit, even with limited options from the starter box. Two of those games we played with two starter sets, which adds quite a bit more to the game and makes it go a bit longer. It definitely does have a bit more of a learning curve to it than X-Wing seemed to have. I do need to play a game with the objectives to see how much that changes the action, but one thing I do see is how having more fighter options can really lead to expanded builds for budding admirals. Wave 1 will help with that.

I try and always support my FLGS since that's where I play that's where I buy. There are lots of people that buy online and then want to bitch when the game store closes! Well they can't pay the bills if everyone buys online to save 5 bucks!

Well don't have a local store nearest is 20-30 miles away so feck them besides never liked playing in stores so I will stick to online. But if I did play in stores then I would buy from them
