Hi dakka, my friend recently bought this model because he thought it was "cool" but said he wanted to play it in a casual game with me to which I said that I didn't really wish to as I don't play the most of compettative lists so I'd stand no chance in winning (I play daemonkin, orks and nurgle CSM).

When I asked how I could possibly stand a chance (as I didn't really like saying no) he said to use multiple blood thirsters(proxy) and just whip him to death (glances on 6's then he has a 4++) and then with orks run powerklaws at him (titan moves 36" and has 4 large blast SD guns) but when I brought up these points he said I was an idiot for not understanding how underpowered the titan is, but on the other hand he doesn't think the new book was a buff so?

So do you guys think I was an ass for saying no to the game? Do you think his "counter" would be effective?

No you aren't an ass for declining. If you don't think it'll be fun then why waste your free time?

No his proposed counters are laughable.

Proxy a titan of your own against him.

At least play against it once or twice. If he wipes you off the table even when you use his suggestions, that should be evidence enough for him that the revenant is OP. If that doesn't work or he blames your tactics, play his army while he plays yours. 1 or 2 games of that and then you ask how much fun it was to play against that thing when your army doesn't stand a chance against it. Of course if you pick the best ork units and he picks the worst eldar units, you'll still be lucky to have more than a 20% win rate. Also, I would much rather face a revenant than 3 wraithknights.

Swap armies. Suggest him to L2P and give suggestions on catching revenant titans with ork boyz.

Remember the 4+ comes before rolling to damage after you roll to hit. Keep in mind this can stack with any other saves due to not being a save itself.

I have this titan, those things won't kill it at all.
Good luck ever getting orks with powerklaws to touch the thing because even if there's a swarm a brave titan owner can bounce around from building to building even, just to avoid it being trapped in melee. Things that do actually worry me are stuff like massed ranged fire that can deal with it. Its armour 12 and ignores 50% of these with its shield, but even then weight of numbers can deal with it like a predator almost; provided you can avoid the blasts. Previous Dark Eldar worried me with the amount of haywire they could take and throw at it with decent speed. When it comes to an actual apocalypse game, knight swarms worry me. If one gets you in combat then it's basically locked there for good. The titan's weakness is getting it in combat, it's just difficult to get it there.

Other fun things to worry about is if he makes it invisible.

And one more thing, this titan cannot deal with decent flyers. All it has it can fire at them is the missile launcher in its shoulders, which is basically from memory just a 30" heavy bolter. It easily gets forgotten most of the time. A flyer able to deal with av12 will do a much better job than boyz with klaws.

Thanks for the reply guys, I feel bad for refusing but as said what's the point in wasting time in a game where both sides don't have fun because there's 0 chance of me doing a thing.

Thing is, I doubt he'd be OK switching armies as he's in denial of its strength. Had a game the other day with my orks vs him where I lost terribly due to flamer d weapons but his argument was they didn't get any sort of buff (along with the wraith knight) but I digress.

Which titans would you suggest using? When I've looked through what I have access to they all seem too expensive when you look at the massed strength d eldar now has

Also with its lack of ability to hit fliers, I have reason to believe he'd bring the reaper guys so they have twin linked shanagins to ground them

It's a pretty big buff, I've basically shelved my Iyanden army as I think I'm likely not going to get a game with them any time soon.

The revenant is the most powerful Light Titan in the game. The only way to really beat it is a drop pod full of sacrificial melta marines or another titan. High STR flyer spam is possible (IG flyers) or the Tyranid flyer that shoots haywire. Your best solution is another titan though and pray to the dice gods you get through his holo-fields before he turns around and blows yours off the table. 1v1 the revenant will usually win due to the holo fields...

Your 'mate' is being a d|~k.
Thats like saying that the perfect counter for a howitzer in real life is an anti-aircraft gun - reasoning that you might hit the crewmembers when those bullets fall back to earth...

you wont have a chance to hit it in close combat its really fast.

you will need lots of fire power ideally another titan.

or some variety of super heavy vehicle with fire power

My recommendation is a couple of rocks... One to throw at the titan to try and knock it off the table, the other to throw at your friend's head

On more a serious note, why not only play small point maelstrom battles. Swarm of orks to hold objectives and try to win on points because if he takes the titan it'll tie up nearly all his points and will have minimal / no troops to contest objectives.
