I am an Ork player and I fully expect to run into Eldar shenanigans at the next tourny so I want to understand how this formation works, I don't have a Codex for Eldar so your going to have to bear with me. Basically, what are the rules that govern the new formation where you can take ridiculously OP amounts of things such as 4 WK or similar?

The Decurions (in Eldar's case its called the War host) aren't formations. It's a detachment comprised of other formations and/or certain specific unit choices. The formations in the decurion keep their bonuses while also getting the ducurion's bonus as well.

In the War Host's case its structured as 1 required formation (can't remember what it's called), 0-1 command formation (which is the seer council stuff) and 1-12 auxillary choices from a list of formations and unit choices. One of the auxillary choices is a single wraith construct so can be a Wraithknight which is how they can take 12 WKs in a single detachment,

You have to have one of the Guardian formations, either 1 Farseer, 3 guardian defenders, 1 vyper squadron, 1 war walker unit, 1 Vauls wrath support battery and 0-1 warlock conclave, or same again with storm guardians instead of guardian defenders, or your last option is the Windroder host, 1 jetseer, 1 jetlock conclave, 3 units of jetbikes, and a vyper squadron. You then have between 1 and 12 choices from the auxiliaries per guardian detachment, which consist of all the formations, a squad of rangers, a unit of fire prisms, night spinners or Falcons, and a wraith construct, eg a hemlock/WL/WK. You can also add one command one, which is either a seer council, a Phoenix Lord/avatar, or autarch/yriel/eldrad/illic

SO the formation tax to taking ridiculous things is a bunch of Jet bikes........F***ing Eldar.

Well that answers the question of what my opponent will be taking. Jetbikes and a Wraith Knight (Tournament limits them to 1) Ugh.......god I hate the Eldar

Jetbike warhost is the cheapest for access to multiple. However considering the restrictions on GMC's at tournaments I don't see that warhost being taken often. The only two things that formation offers is a once a game shred for all shuriken weapons and a guaranteed 6" move for all battlefocus. I think it's more likely that you'll see CAD's, as then the jetbikes will be obsec, and you have the same limit on the wraithknight. If the tournament allows more, then I'd still assume CAD, just doubled.

Don't forget though that a formation can be taken as a detachment. Like the wraith host for example. If people want to field a lot of Wraithguard then a wraithlord seems a small tax to gain battlefocus on all your wraiths.

Lastly, the guys above got the warhost slightly wrong. The limit on command units is 0-3 not 0-1.

Many of the formations have quite bonkers rules. If they have a Warhost, they'll all run 6" automatically. Even Spirit Host, which provides Battle Focus to the Wraiths in it.

Two things to recall, that players are likely to forget:
-If a unit from the Warhost formation has *any* models from another detachment (such as a CAD), they lose the Run bonus.
-If a unit contains any unit without Battle Focus (Hi, WWP Archon), it cannot battle focus
-As you play Orks, remember that a Fire Avenger squad loses its defensive bonus (BS2 or counterattack) if joined by an IC (other than Asurmen).

Eldar have a lot of rules. Its easy to get them wrong.

(The Windrider Warhost is a great way to get a core firebase, like the 4x Davu Serpents from the last book. I think we'll see it a lot. Lots of Jetbikes, 1 WK, fill the rest with AntiTank of choice is my guesstimate for the new Eldar netlist.)
