Is it all 28mm models? Just power armored? Just Blood Angels?
I was about to buy some Secret Weapon bases when this crossed my mind.

Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
Well, probably PA models, plus models with Jump Packs if you'd like. If you're an Ork player I'd recommend putting Nobz on 32mm bases.

I believe the official GW response has been that they're for whichever models look cooler on a 32mm base.

They're there for aesthetic reasons, and since Marines and some similar figures were crowding to the edge of their 28mm bases. I'd put Nobz on them too.

Eh there are silly situations that it can help like something involving base contact but 90% of the time its bad. especially for maneuverability like small corridors and stuff unless they have jump packs. (since you cant walk through other people) Edit: Actually its good for blast mitigation since the 2" coherency and bigger base lets you spread out a bit more.

The likely Marine codex next month will probably show us the marines are all going to be on 32mm.
That said I've started switching already. Marines look so much better on 32mm bases. I've done up 100 already and will likely likely do all my marines that way eventually.

Maybe I'll hold off doing a large amount of PA dudes... maybe finish up my termies (painted and based and such) before starting any PA dudes. By the time I finish with the termies, it'll be mid-June... maybe we'll find out then.

By the time I finish with the termies, it'll be mid-June... maybe we'll find out then. All indications show that Power Armor models get 32mm bases from now on. It started with Blood Angels, every infantry model except for scouts was moved to 32mm. (scouts stayed with the old 25mm base) Then we got Necrons where the elite infantry took them on. (Warriors were still on 25mm bases) Next we got the Khorne DK codex where all power armored units had them. (Look at the bundle they sold, it includes 32 mm bases) Lastly we got the Eldar release, the Autarch came on a 32mm base, while the troops remained on regular 25mm bases. The AdMech skitarii are also on 25mm bases. Putting it all together it seems that all power armor units are now on 32mm, both chaos and chapter marines. Regular infantry from all faction remain on 25mm, but special characters and larger elite infantry move to the 32 mm bases. Extrapolating this, I can forsee a lot of the Ork elites being put on 32mm bases in the future, if not the ork boyz themselves which currently enjoy dangling their toes off the edge of their bases. I'd say you are safe to put your marines on 32mm!

Yeah this. At least for me, I am just going 32mm for all my future SM stuff, any IC, or larger infantry stuff. I am definitely NOT gonna bother re-basing any of my guardsmen, eldar, or the used orks I have started piling up.
The thought of rebasing 200+ footsloggers is just.... nope.

Well Guardsmen are 99% not going to get rebased on 30s.
GW design team only puts things that look like they beling on the 30s like marines and crons
Things like gaunts and guardsmen should be safe.

It seems to be if your model's toes are are dangling off the base, it goes to a bigger base (if you want)
The tyranid warriors went to 50's, and they needed to be. Warriors are huge, and the model is so cramped on a 40 that a lot of the model is sticking out (Not that tyranid models don't stick out all over the place anyway )
Larger bases are to your benefit when you're under a blast, but other than that it's not really a big deal.

I plan on putting my Tau Stealth Suits on them. I put my Nobs on 40mm bases because the Flash Gitz came with 40mm and they are just nobs with big guns. But anything that is around power armor size I think will look really good on the 32mm bases.

My larger necrons do look much better on them (and a few other models) however, for me the biggest disadvantage (other than rebasing old models) is storage - all my storage trays for infantry types are designed to be 25mm.

Going to put my Stealers and Hormagaunts on them. will make the Hormagaunts more stable and will make CC much easier to manage since what is actually in base to base should line up better. Instead of arms and claws getting in the way, then tangling up when you come to take casualties from the front.

As GW does not seem to care...I'll be putting at least one squad of IG on 32mm bases so i can use them for 40k AND khador winter guard. Cause Warmachine players do really care....
