Hi all, I'm back to playing 40k after many years off, I used to play Orks in 5th edition but took a few years off. I've always liked Chaos and decided to play a custom Chaos Space Marines Warband, mostly for casual games with friends. I'd appreciate any feedback on my first attempt!

HQ: Chaos Terminator Lord, Mark of Tzeentch, Lightning Claw - 125

Elite: 4 Chaos Terminators, 4 Lightning Claws (Bodyguard of Chaos Lord, Landraider Transport in Heavy Support) - 138

Troops: 10 CSM, VOTLW, Chaos Rhino (no upgrades) - 185
Troops: 20 Cultists, 1 flamer, 1 heavy stubber, 8 autoguns - 108

Fast Attack: 3 Chaos Spawn, 3 Marks of Nurgle - 108
Fast Attack: 10 Raptors, 10 Marks of Khorne, Melta Bombs - 205
Fast Attack: Heldrake, Baleflamer - 170

Heavy Support: 3 Obliterators, 3 Marks of Nurgle - 228
Heavy Support: Chaos Land Raider (no upgrades) - 230

TOTAL: 1497 Points

I'd appreciate any feedback, I'm still crafting the list before I get the models, and I took many years off, so I'd appreciate any feedback!

Looks good, and fun for a casual game. Terminators aren't really competitive nor is the LR, but again for a casual game it looks nice and the models look awesome imo.

A few changes I'd make is drop the cultists to 10. 20 or 10 cultists will do the same just sit on an objective and be a distraction for your opponent. Field them without the autoguns of flamer, keeping it as cheap as possible. Because of your combination I'll assume its the 20 from Dark Vengeance, I usually field the same, and give 1 guy the autogun just to stay WYSIWYG.

With those few points you could give the Lord a Power Fist along with the LC, so that he gets +1 attack, also I'm not so sure about the MoT. 4++ is nice, but against a PF/TH, you´ll get instakilled if you fail that 4++, with MoN you would survive it as well as making you a little tougher to wound at.

Oh, also, make the LR a dedicated transport for the termies, and take the oblies in units of 1. You'll probably give away first blood away, but your rhino was probably gonna do that anyway. If you take them as units of 1, you'll never have to test ld due to shooting and can fire their weapons one by one and not waste any overkill shots

Thanks for your suggestions, they make a lot of sense. As I said, I'm fairly new having not played since 5th edition. I'm generally going for a fairly balanced army, with a decent mix of CC, Range, Anti-Infantry, and Anti-Armor. One of my friends is also picking up Necrons, so I'm guessing I'll be going against Necrons quite a bit, he's said he wants to take Nemesor Zahndrek but I think my army can hold up since only the Raptors have special rules he can steal.
