Sinewy Scourge

Hey Dakka! I just wrote a list, this is the first time I have written a list for the big bugs, so any C and C would be appreciated. I mainly play in a non-competetive friendly meta, so utter competitiveness doesn't matter.
HQ -
Hive Tyrant - 330
2x twin linked devourers
wings
hive commander
regeneration
electroshock grubs
The Norn Crown
Troops
20x hormagaunts - 140
adrenal glands
20x hormagaunts - 160
toxin sacks
20x termagaunts - 80
20x termagaunts - 80
tervigon - 240
regeneration
crushing claws
warriors - 100
barbstrangler
Elites -
3x Zoanthrope - 250
tyrannocite
-barbstranglers
venomthrope - 45
venomthrope - 45
Fast attack -
28x gargoyles - 168
Heavy support -
Tyrannofex - 210
fleshborer hive
regeneration
Basically, the main idea is to have the Hive commander on the tyrant outflank the tervigon, creating an outflanking MC that hopefully spawns some gaunts.
The gargoyles flap ahead, and try to absorb fire, and screen the venomthropes, while the gaunts of all sorts screen the big guys.
I think I have synapse covered, but if not, let me know.

For the Tervigon to count as Troops you'll need to put x30 Termagants in one Brood. Otherwise it looks to be a good "fun" list.
Regen, and the Crown are not really "good" uses for your points, but maybe you'll get some value from it.

Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

Not a bad first time list. I have a couple suggestions on just improving general synergy. First and foremost, you have fallen into the trap that most new nid players face: too many upgrades. Nids' strength comes from quantity, not quality. Almost every single nid unit is better off cheap or bare. For example, if you dropped regeneration and the norn crown from your MCs, you would have an addition 130 points. That's an entire unit. In almost every situation, you will be better off getting more models on the board instead of expensive upgrades. Second, about synapse. You do have a good amount of synapse for this army. However, your tactics stretch out your sources too much. If you have the tervigon outflanking and the zoans in a spore, that only leaves your tiny warrior unit and your flyrant, which is going to fly forward. An experienced opponent will snipe out your 4+ save warriors and then you're in trouble. I would drop the tyrannocite and have the zoans walk in the middle of your troops. They will be fine with their 3++. That saves you another 75 points. Third, crushing claws are rarely worth their points. MCs can deal with medium AV, and they can always smash to deal with high AV. Save the points and keep the tervigon cheap. After all of these changes you will have another 200+ points to play with. I would bring another heavy or two to deal with big threats. A second tyrannofex if you have one would be good. Carnifexes would also work. They would both benefit from the screening gaunts and venoms. Hope this was helpful EDIT: ninja'd by pinecone. As always

so regen is not worth it? Looking at it, a 4+ ITWND seems pretty good to me.
revised list -
Hive tyrant - 240
wings
2x twin linked devourer
electroshock grubs/desiccator larva*
20x hormagaunts - 140
adrenal glands
20x hormagaunts - 160
toxin sacks
30x termagaunts - 120
20x termagaunts - 80
3x warriors
barbed strangler
2x deathspitters
tervigon - 210
adrenal glands
3x zoanthropes - 150
venomthrope - 45
venomthrope - 45
30x gargoyles - 180
tyrannofex - 185
electroshock grubs/desiccator larva*
tyrannofex - 185
electrock grubs/desiccator larva*
I will switch out the upgrades with the * symbol after them, depending on my opponent.
I dropped a lot of things , and bought another tyrannofex, I just think it looks really cool, and would be overwelming to my opponent, but not as ridiculous as 2 flyrants (my first thought)
looking this over, it is amazing how many bodies I can fit into a list, I love it!
There are 110 gaunts, 140 including gargoyles and gaunts (same difference).
Thanks for all the help. Can't wait until I actually buy most of these models so I can play them. Happy wargaming,
-Mikey

Regen is not as simple as IWND, its a single +4 roll at the beginning of your turn to recover a single wound, not something you roll after taking every wound.
Yeah its nice and I personally would consider putting it on something as vital as a Tyrant but a flyrant is already pretty defensive with toughness 6, flying, 3+ armour and jink if needed. Not to mention a decent chance at getting FNP either via warlord trait or psi powers. 30 points is a lot to the nids.
As for your updated list, I would consider seeing if you can find Tyrannocytes for your Tyrannofex. I use that and its a pretty good combination especially if your sporting the multiple template set up. You only want them slogging if you're planning on using them defensively I think.

Looks like fun, I kinda like Tyrannofexen myself. But Haywire is almost our Only dependable way to damage high armor targets, so the Tervigon needs a Thorax hive. In general I don't much like Dessicators, if you are facing Space Marines, for example, you'll wound most everyone under the Template, then watch almost everyone make a save. Shredder bugs can do very well vs Space Marines and the like though.
That is one nice thing about Thorax hives, they are not modeled, so as long as you spend the points you can try any version you care to.

Diggory_x -
thats what ITWND is. Just ITWND happens at the end of your turn as opposed to the beginning like Regen.
thinking about it, the electroshock grubs are prob better, and the spore pods would be something to add in larger games for me

That is an option. I would chose to not put it in a pod because its job is to soak up fire. An opponent is going to see 140 gaunts/gargoyles all with at least 5+ cover and 2 MCs with 3+ cover and 2+ armor, and they will get more than a little worried. Putting one of the tyrannofexes in a pod allows your opponent to focus down on one. In my opinion, a lot of nid strategy is psyching out your opponent. But to each their own
