Subject: Raven Guard Tactics - HELP!

Hi guys,
I have been trying to get back into the hobby recently, and one of my friends at my local GW was playing with a Drop Pod, Stormraven Blood Angles list. It looked both fun and competitive, but I'm more of a Raven Guard fan myself! I was hoping to get advice on creating a Raven Guard list in a similar style. If there is a better style for Raven Guard I would love to hear it as any advice is more than welcome.

Lots of rhinos. With scout and ObSec they can be all over the place claiming VP.

This, I'm also planning on getting back into the hobby with Raven Guard and I'm holding back till the new codex drops and decide whether to do 30k or 40k.
Raven Guard are rumoured to be getting a formation as well.

Okay thanks for the heads up on the rumour. I'll wait for the new codex to drop before i decide then. I might do a small Guard army to pass the time then.

As a Raven Guard player, we have a fair number of eggs in the new codex/rumored new formation basket. Current chapter tactics are almost all based on making certain troops more maneuverable, not more dangerous.
Winged deliverance - jump pack units can use jump packs in movement and assault, and re-roll Hammer of Wrath wounds. Great for movement, the re-rolled hammer of wrath is worth an occasional couple of wounds. Vanguard Vets can be a dangerous but expensive option if you want to maximize this chapter tactic.
Scout & First turn stealth for non-bulky units - really this means your tactical marines (and to a much lesser extent scouts), sternguard and devastators - and more importantly - their dedicated transports - rhinos/razorbacks. This allows a 12" scout move for the transport carrying the unit or the ability to outflank the unit. This is held back a bit by the only really dangerous unit that benefits from the scout move or outflanking being sternguard.
On the whole the current chapter tactics allow for increased maneuverability but not much else. White Scars bike armies pretty much do maneuverability better than Raven Guard.
So the key is to not just rely on units that benefit from chapter tactics. Go ahead and take other stuff because you'll need the firepower.
Here's hoping the new formation adds a lot to Raven Guard.

Current Raven Guard can bring up to 4 ICs with Scout meaning you can make a fair number of allied units scout/outflank.

Also I would just look at FW raptors chapter tactics to pass the time.
They are pretty good and a Raven Guard succesor.

Raptors are definitely a cool chapter. They get the Stealth/Scout from Raven Guard, but rather than getting the Jump boost to Assault and HoW, you basically get an army of mini-snipers.
Raptors also get a much better character than any of the Raven Guard ones. Lias Issodon is a huge force multiplier for a Space Marines army, as well as being a good shooting unit himself. His reserve rerolls can help a Drop Pod heavy army quite a bit.
However, if you really want to run Jetpack units like actual Raven Guard, Raptors aren't as good. Better to bring Korvydae or wait for the new Codex.
