We were talking about how cloaking doesn't really fit to how it worked I the show. It was this waiting game of waiting for the cloaked ship to fire then fire back before they recloak. The last move with Ent E firing multipule small shots at random doesn't count. So I got to thinking how to adjust for fun thematic games. It would never work in a event of course so again just for fun games as a challenge.

Cloaking rules: Enemy ships may not fire at a cloaked ship nor target lock a cloaked ship. Should a ship cloak while a target lock token is attached to it the target lock is discarded. Threat all cloaked ships as skill 15, this gives them the first strike and allows for all other captians to have a chance to attack back.

Cloaking effects: All ships firing on a cloaking vessel (after it has fire of course) -1 attack dice, the cloaking ship is granted +2 evade dice (not 4) and may convert up to 2 battlestation results into evade results.

I think this will help give the cloak ship the ambush hunter feel

what do you think?

I like it and would give it a try. I think it would work better for NG era. The -2 attack dice would make cloaked ships almost impossible to hit with Ent & TOS ships due to the fact that most of them only have 2-3 attacks.

Maybe they should only get skill 15 during the attack phase just an idea i had.

I agree with the target lock idea, but not quite the others.

You can only fire on a cloaked ship at Short range. You must expend a Scan token to fire at a cloaked ship at Medium or Long range.

A cloaking ship gets 2 free Evades. For each turn it remains cloaked, put an additional Cloak token by the ship. Cloak tokens accumulate. A cloaked ship can spend a cloak token for +2 Defense dice or 2 dice to add to Captain skill. When doing the latter, roll attack dice. For each hit, the ship gains +1 to it's captain skill. For each crit, the ship gains a +2 to its captain skill.

It never ends well

Our final rules for this were as follows and worked very well, again it only works when one side is a non-cloaking fleet.

Cloaking rules: Enemy ships may not fire at a cloaked ship nor target lock a cloaked ship. Should a ship cloak while a target lock token is attached to it the target lock is discarded. Threat all cloaked ships as skill 15 In the shooting phase, this gives them the first strike. even if the cloaked ship has advanced cloaking device any ship may shoot at them.

Cloaking effects: All ships firing on a cloaked vessel (after it has fired of course) may not adjust dice (Worf, Picard Skill 8, Spock, ect), the cloaking ship is granted +2 evade dice (not 4) and may convert up to 2 battlestation results into evade results.

I have hated the cloak rule since the game came out. It does not work like in the show. This is how I feel it needs to be.

When a ship cloaks an enemy ship may target lock them during that round and when they attack the cloaking ship does not get the extra defense dice. If you don't use the target lock during that round you should lose it as you have no idea where the ship has gone. The cloaking ship should not get the extra defense dice because they are in the process of cloaking, which means they have to drop shields and are vulnerable at this point.

A completely cloaked ship should get the +4 defense dice when an enemy ship fires at them. The enemy ship doesn't know exactly where they are at and it should be harder to hit the cloaked ship thus the extra dice.

Once a cloaked ship has dropped its cloak to fire at another ship, they should no longer get those extra defense dice. In the show, they had to drop the cloak and had no shields up so this is when they should be vulnerable.

Just my take.

I am with Zod.

Until we were corrected, my group used to play cloaking as he pointed out.

BUT, I like the changes you made to the basic cloak rules. I only disagree with the BS to Evade park. They are harder to target, but not that much harder.

I think they initially did this but they found out that ships with a lower pilot skill benefited from this. Since they fire last, they would have the extra defense dice, whereas someone with a higher pilot skill would get to fire first but would then become vulnerable to everything else.

The way we used to do it before we were corrected:

The ship spends it's action to cloak. it disables it's shields and places that token. HOWEVER, it still only rolls it's base agility in defense this round, and can be target locked.

Round two, the ship is fully cloaked, and can now roll full dice.
