Hey all, I'm new here.

The Orks pictured Waagh!-ing in my kitchen are actually second hand models I bought off ebay for my younger brother whose starting an Ork army/kilteam.

I've been super eager to actually get to use my Camera/lenses on some models.

So my question is: Does anyone else have any hobbies that mix well with Warhammer tabletop? Or Warhammer in general?

I imagine Cosplay does, and I've met one guy who paints tyranids for the fun of it. Model railroading (if that's a word) would work, you build the scenery and trains then use it as a battlefield.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Roleplaying games. You can use minis to represent characters, npcs, enemies, etc.

Especially the FFG 40k RPGs.

I have to second this, Since getting into 40k I've been using my models for every session of Stormbringer I run and my players love it and seem to get more involved in combat.

Writing is a good one. For when you just want a way to flex the creative muscles and write a piece without having to work on building a setting or plot from scratch, having a universe as wide/deep as 40k as a sandbox is a blessing. It's great for one-shots and character studies within an established setting, and at the same time, the comparatively loose canon of 40k means there is plenty of scope to carve out a niche for unique sub-settings, stories and characters.

I play guitar and bass, good to have a 'cool' hobby to offset this

Writing definitely, I wish I was a better writer, I'd love to write some fluff pieces for my heresy stuff. Drawing/art could go well too.

I too am a musician, if wasn't for that I think 40k would make me too nerdy for my girlfriend lol.

I hunt ducks. So during hunting season, i go hunt in the morning and play/paint 40k in the afternoon. You can manage several hobbies at the same time. But it's good to have a second hobby that doesn't relate to the first.

I think my girlfriend is (marginally) more interested in my Wargaming than my music if anything haha. She's quite artistic so that side of it appeals to her, where as she's not really musically minded at all. What do you play, just out of curiosity?

I play bass, keyboard, and produce mostly but I also play guitar, banjo, trumpet, and drums. I haven't had a whole lot of time for music in the last couple of years but I'm hoping to free up more time for it here soon.

I can dig this.
I play bass and write books.
This is my "relax and have fun" hobby.

Don't know if I call it a legitimate hobby, but I play a lot of video games (trying to play less because it cuts into my painting/modelling time!), including WH40k: Dawn of War 2.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Yup. Bass is my main instrument. Good fix. I mainly play guitar to mess around with effects, because I don't get to do that as much on bass and I love effects haha.

There are quite a few bass players here haha.

Lol. Some mornings i feel like I shoot my 12 gauge at BS1. It's always good to bring a Tau buddy in the duck blind, so he can put some markerlights on them ducks lol

Might as well pile on to the "I play bass" bandwagon, although it comes behind guitar which comes very distantly behind drums in order of time spent (it'd help if 40k didn't suck up all my free money and prevent me from getting my own bass).

To answer the OP, no, most of my other hobbies have no connection to 40k. I don't really consider terrain building to be a separate hobby since I build stuff for 40k.

I'll third this. Even though it's not technically fantasy, Warhammer models have always made up the majority of the figs I use to run games of D&D

I'm surprised to see very few (if any?) have mentioned videogames as a hobby, videogames have been a major hobby in my life for many years. I've only recently started playing 40K and hot damn am i enjoying it! But I am finding myself torn between playing videogames or doing some hobby IT'S REAL HARD TO STOP PLAYING VIDEOGAMES!

Aside from that I go running a lot.

Video games were probably the reason I got out of playing 40k in the 90s when I think about it. There was a straight choice between spending money on 40k or spending it on upgrading my PC constantly and buying games.

Still play video games here and there, but find modelling and painting so much more relaxing now I'm back into it.

As for other hobbies, I enjoy football and movies, and I write a lot.

The only reason I didn't mention them is that I work at a game shop. Video games aren't my hobby anymore, they are my job.

My non wargaming hobies inclue some that can be relevant lie board games, rpgs and video games and others that are les so such as judo, brazilan jiujitsu, archery as of next week ad muay thai once I feel healthy enough to go back to it.

Also if you get into the historical side of wargaming that can lead you into wanting to read and research the armies and battles you are playing.
