I love it!! The base mephiston model looks really silly, so this is nice to see

The conversion is really nice, I love the base especially.

As for painting, wow! The overall style is very nice, with actual brushwork, instead of the ridiculous looking super airbrushy cartoony style that soooo many people consider doing nowadays, and not a ridiculous amount of OSL.

The sword is perfect, and the blending on the cape is amazing, and I especially love the white/light grey on the model.

My only tiny issue is the plasma pistol, the plasma itself is kinda messy (I see a little blue on the edges of the caging), I think it would have looked better if it was either metal or grey.

Amazing work, happy wargaming,

-Mikey

Airbrush work looks great and not cartoony at all. What you on about.

I'd say Luther uses an airbrush as well, from what I can tell with his rhino/landraider work and possible some of his own blood angels. That grainy effect is from the airbrush.

This model however looks pretty damn menacing. Not a fan of the sword but otherwise fantasticccccc!

And that blue on the "caging" is OSL which loosk fantastic and realistic.

I feel that this comment of yours shows how subjective this entire subsection of the forum, and really the forum itself is.

I personally love the sword myself, as opposed to your dislike of it. I think that the super cartoony styles of painting look really stupid, and that gritty, realistic styles look amazing, and are some of the best paintjobs I have ever seen.

Also, the OSl with the plasma pistol ends up looking sloppy. OSL is not just a little splash of colour on a small portion of the housing, it should be realistic, with equal amounts of colour in each spot.

I will apologize for using the term "airbrushy". I mean it as morso an effect that results in really cartoony look. Usually done by over-the-top shading and ridiculous amounts of OSL.

I used the term in this post and in many others, but I have realized that it is very misleading, and not correct with what I mean.

all of this is based off opinion, and when you kind of attack me, criticizing my OPINION (something that varies from person to person), it makes you seem very childish.

happy wargaming,

-Mikey

Thanks for the comments!

There is always room for improvement of course and I value all feedback. I am happy with the model though and, more importantly, so is the customer!

I went to the Grand (Re)Opening of Warhammer World in Nottingham today with a friend. We saw some amazing things, check out the pics on my blog!

Brings back fond memories of playing 2ed Blood Angels. The smoothness of the color blending on the fabric would run the risk of appearing "cartoony", but the extreme realism of the face and hair really bring the whole piece together to me. I think it works quite nicely, especially with the softness of the blending on the black part.

A very nice conversion and paint job. That 2nd edition artwork of Meph is actually one of my favorites in classic 40k.

Blown away! Would not have thought it was possible to make an updated model that looked anything like the original one without it looking corny, but you proved me wrong. Well done!

That looks really, really nice! Amazing job there!

Out of interest, what was his cloak/cape made out of? Were they parts from another model, or were they sculpted out of greenstuff? It looks absolutely stunning, I love the flow of it and can almost visualize it blowing in the breeze.

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you like him!

Just to re-iterate, I only painted the model. The conversion / build was done by Simon at masteroftheforge.com.

The 2nd Ed artwork was indeed the inspiration for the piece. The cloak was hand-sculpted – I'm not exactly sure of the material but possibly Milliput / ProCreate plus some green stuff.

Thanks, sorry you did mention that at the top of the post. Doh! I need glasses

I must have been too mesmerized by the lovely looking miniature and paintjob. I shall check out the masteroftheforge site as the build is very cool.
