We are only running 1250 points because some new players are short the typical 1850.

To help your event go well, may I suggest implementing a Highlander restriction?
Otherwise, while you 'encourage' folks not to bring spam or broken stuff, so the Internet says, like WaveSerpents (a month ago), you really ought to clearly define your comp.
Well, Highlander, allowing up to 3 troop choices ... ?

There may be someone show with a list like that.. The highlander may hinder newer players. I think the other restrictions will keep most in check. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you truly want a friendlier event with few deathstars etc there are two decent routes you can take to insure success.
1. Ask for lists a week in advance so you can review and approve them.
2. Create a comprehensive list of the things you don't want to see so players know what to avoid when building their lists.

My goodness, Peregrine, I don't think I've read a post of yours that has anything positive to say about anything.
This is a perfectly benign little inquiry about a tourney, a tourney that you won't attend.
If you don't like FW restrictions, then don't attend the tourney. There's no need to post negatively about it.
Plus, dewen has cited a common sense reason for disallowing FW: newer players. My 10.5 years of 40k has shown me that most new players barely find out about all codex armies before FW enters the picture. Heck, maybe it's the TO.
Either way, your post adds nothing positive.

This is a public forum for discussion, not just praise.
And I notice that you singled out my criticism for complaint, but not OverwatchCNC's comments. I doubt that someone from California is going to be attending a small store tournament in Ohio, so how are their suggestions any more relevant than mine? Or did your "don't talk about it if you're not going to attend" response to him get lost in a forum glitch?
Plus, dewen has cited a common sense reason for disallowing FW: newer players. My 10.5 years of 40k has shown me that most new players barely find out about all codex armies before FW enters the picture. Heck, maybe it's the TO.
That's a terrible reason for banning FW rules, because it immediately tells all of your new players that you're not welcome if you don't follow the TO's house absurd restrictions on what is "real 40k". I had my first FW models before I had 500 points finished, and if a tournament like the OP's had been my introduction to the larger 40k community then I probably would have given up and found a different game to play.
Either way, your post adds nothing positive.
It adds something positive because it tells the OP that they are using terrible rules and creating an environment where only the "right" kind of player is welcome, the exact opposite of a newbie-friendly event. If the OP listens to my criticism and fixes their rules then their event will be better, and I'd call that a positive outcome.

Perhaps he didn't call me out because I made a post that was actually addressing the OPs original point in a constructive manner. Rather than a snide one liner.

I did address it. The rules suck and are unfriendly. I'm sorry if that doesn't fit your odd definition of "constructive" (which seems to consist of "only talking about the things that I want to talk about"), but that's constructive criticism.

Friendly format to help new players. BRB and Codices are enough IMHO for a newer player to consume. Adding FW is that much more. In the past FW has been permitted and will be for future events. Automatically Appended Next Post: You can try a Highlander list, but its not required.

You do realize that new players may have FW units in their armies, right? And that saying "no FW" means that the new player's first introduction to tournaments is that they're full of arbitrary rules about how to have fun the right way, and certain people aren't welcome. So what you really mean is that you want to help new codex-only players, even if it means excluding other new players.

Yes, I realize what I am doing. This isn't my first rodeo. All the new players that have talked to be about getting into 40K do not have any FW. I also asked for feedback from the local gamers who regularly attend the tournaments I have been organizing, and everyone thought the rules were good as written.
Peregrine, you can also continue by saying a new player may have a super heavy or guargantuan and they are being excluded also. Therefore, any restriction may put someone out. A line has to be drawn somewhere. All feedback, besides yours, has been positive and supportive. As I stated in my earlier post, FW will be permitted in future friendly tournaments. FW has was always been permitted in the competitive ones. I own FW myself and see its place. For this single event, it is not permitted. All the new players that have approached me are single army, one codex players. The tournament does not exclude them from taking allies or using multiple sources.
