Been tinkering around lately with list building made from The Purge or The Unending Host (got a list on army lists but this idea I think is better). Then thought 'what would be a great unit to benefit from the Unending Hosts 3+ intervening model cover save it grants to anyone behind its renegades. Giant Spawn was an obvious choice, being so cheap yet only having a 4+. Looked at CSM for a long while, but when I moved onto the Deamon dex, one unit really stood out, especially with how cheap they could be - PlagueBearers.
With shrouded they get a 2+ cover save behind an unending host renegade screen, and if anyone tries to reduce their cover by 1point, it is still a 2+ (3+ increased by 2 reduced by 1). Since they can also get a reasonably cheap yet destructive Herald to grant them fnp, they become far tougher than any 9pt (or anything close to 9pts) model in the game. T4 with 2+/5++/5+++.
Even better is the fact that an opponent has to pretty much wipe out the 3pt model renegade squad in front of them to prevent the save (unless ignores cover or barrage), due to a sigil awarding stubborn and reroll of the LD roll (4+d6), making them incredibly tough to move without killing them all. And if they do wipe out the squad, not only will there be other squads nearby to take over cover duties if not in assault range yet, but the wiped out squad itself will respawn on a 2+ with outflank.
If you give the plaguebearer unit a plague ridden with eatherblade and plague flail, and the herald the same, along with a plague banner, you will have a unit that can be very destructive in melee.
Support with Giant Spawn and make sure the renegades have threatening enough firepower (for their points) when they respawn on your opponents flank and I think you'll be onto a winner.
This will fall down to a small extent against barrage and ignores cover weapons (as the PBs will still have a 5++/5+++ and are after all, only 9pts), but against anything else it should be awesome sauce.

Upgrade 1 to Plagueridden with 2 lesser (Eatherblade + plague flail)
Plague banner.
1850pts.
The lascannon could be dropped to upgrade both heralds etherblades to greater eatherblades. Also may not need 5 sigil units, perhaps, 3 will do, making room for 2 more flamers in the list.
I feel the incredibly tough and destructive (wounding on a 2+ for one turn due to plague banner with 9 ap2 attacks on the charge, 5 of which are ws5 I4 and with a reroll to hit from both models) Plaguebearer units add a very strong backbone to The Unending Hosts horde. At least on paper.
What's your thoughts? Would the rending Deamonettes benefit more? They wouldn't be anywhere near as tough, but would probably be more destructive in melee.
