Subject: Armada: Some 300 point Fleets

I've had a few 300 point games now, including 2 with the new release, so I thought I'd share a couple of fleets and see what people think
REBEL FLEET (300 points)
1 • Assault Frigate Mark II A - General Dodonna - XX-9 Turbolasers (106)
2 • CR90 Corellian Corvette A - XX-9 Turbolasers (49)
3 • CR90 Corellian Corvette B - Engine Techs - Dodonna's Pride (53)
4 • Luke Skywalker X-wing Squadron (20)
5 • Keyan Farlander B-wing Squadron (20)
6 • B-wing Squadron (14)
7 • A-wing Squadron (11)
8 • A-wing Squadron (11)
9 • Dutch Vander Y-wing Squadron (16)
So, the plan for this one is to maximise the heck out of the General Dodonna's ability and try to crit *all* the things. In saying that, I'm not too sure the XX-9 turbolasers on the Corvette A is the best idea though, but meh...
Dutch was originally a normal X-Wing but I had 3 points left over.
------------------------------------
EMPIRE FLEET (300 points)
1 • Victory II-class Star Destroyer - Admiral Motti (109)
2 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)
3 • Gladiator II-class Star Destroyer - Demolisher (72)
4 • TIE Interceptor Squadron (11)
5 • TIE Interceptor Squadron (11)
6 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
7 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
8 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
This was a simple list, an attempt to try to get 3 capital ships on the board. I originally had double Victory-2's and a Gladiator-I but the points didn't work out right. The Gladiator-II does help though by giving me the second anti fighter dice. One thing I'm half tempted to do though, is drop an interceptor squad to a TIE Fighter squad and bump Motti up to Admiral Screed to take advantage of all the black dice.
----------------------------------
EMPIRE FLEET (300 points)
1 • Victory II-class Star Destroyer - Grand Moff Tarkin - Expanded Hangar Bay - Enhanced Armament (138)
2 • Gladiator II-class Star Destroyer - Engineering Team - Demolisher (77)
3 • Darth Vader TIE Advanced Squadron (21)
4 • TIE Advanced Squadron (12)
5 • Major Rhymer TIE Bomber Squadron (16)
6 • TIE Bomber Squadron (9)
7 • TIE Interceptor Squadron (11)
8 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
9 • TIE Fighter Squadron (8)
I've played this list twice now and there's quite a few things I like about it. Rhymer, a TIE Bomber and 2 TIE Advanceds are a pretty awesome little combo together. Rhymer will let the Advanced's throw their black dice out to medium range (ok, fair, they don't get the crits like the other bombers, but it's a 75% hit chance all the same), plus the Advanceds get to Escort the Bombers too. In saying that, I don't think Darth Vader fits too much with the squad. He seems to be better flying off on his own killing fighters, rather than babysitting some Bombers. I'd probably be better off just going for a normal advanced, adding a TIE Fighter and going for the Initiative bid.
The Demolisher is pretty darn awesome, in tonight's game he fired at long range, stripping a shield but my opponent spent a defence token to do it. Then he moved forward to speed 3, thanks to Tarkin's navigate token, did a handbrake turn and unloaded at close range on an Assault Frigate, doing a terrifying amount of damage.
Due to some incredibly lucky rolling (Seriously, 7 points of damage on 5 dice!), the VSD followed up, combining with some bombers and they basically one turn KO'ed the Assault Frigate.
Note: Not Nebulon B, but a fully fledged Assault Frigate. So yeah, that was pretty impressive. The particular fighter makeup could be improved though.

Apparently, there's a lot of love for Motti and Tarkin for the Empire, but I'm the only one I know of who wants to explore fielding Screed as a commander.
Why no love for Screed?

I think the problem with Screed is that his advantages are situational, EG it's only particularly useful if you're using a lot of dice in the attack. Whereas Motti and Tarkin always get to use your abilities.

It seems to me that using Mauler Mithel, A TIE advanced, and soontir Fel would be a nasty combo. Mauler does auto-damage. Enemies have to shoot the TIE advanced, and by not shooting soontir fel they take damage.

Tarkin obviously becomes more cost efficient with a larger fleet. Motti is similar, but his efficiency is a matter of both the number and size of the ships you take. He has the additional advantage of being the cheapest Imperial commander right now at two points less than Screed. Screed is a perfect fit, however, for any Imperial fleet because he gives you something to do with the blank dice you are bound to roll given you chuck so many out of the VSD front arc. He's also the key to any upgrade triggered by critical effects, such as XX-9 Turbolasers.

Or Overload Pulse and/or Assault Concussion Missiles.
I'm working on a fleet right now that uses a Vic-II with Dominator and Overload pulse, and a Glad-II with Demolisher and Assault Concussion Missiles. I think this combo should be able to vaporize a Rebel ship every turn or two (I may need to bring Rhymer and TIE Bombers/TIE Advanced to ensure this).
However, on the topic of Commanders good for specific situations:
Full CR(azy)-90 Fleet:
CR-90 A : Mon Mothma - Enhanced Armament (84)
2x CR-90 A: Enhanced Armament (2x 54: 108)
CR-90 B: Dodonna's Pride (45)
4x X-Wing Squadron (4x 13: 52)
A-Wing Squadron (11)
Total: 300
I'm not actually going to buy two more CR-90s (at least, not until I decide to sell my Micro Machines/SWM: SB (Star Wars Miniatures: Starship Battles) fighters), but I thought this would be fun to try out.

I dont really see much point playing 300 pts when its going to be a 400 pt meta in about 6 months (hopefully wave 2 doesnt take longer than that).

Exactly Mon Mothma's kind of list.
Otherwise, she's just too expensive. Meanwhile, Dodonna's best feature is being the cheapest commander in the game. Garm Bel Iblis is the best the Rebellion currently offers and he's sorta of just okay (mini-Tarkin). He works pretty well with liasons, which are no too expensive themselves, to grant Assault Friagtes some tactical flexibility. I am hoping Ackbar will offer the Rebels something more exciting.

The point is that all tournaments will be at the 300 point level until Wave 2 comes out. So if you want to get involved in any competitive play, you should be pretty familiar with a 300 point list.
Playing casual games? Sure, play whatever point level you want.
