So I was thinking if any of the deployment zones (standard rulebook ones) has a bigger area than the other?
If my math serves me correct, Dawn of war is roughly 850 sq inches and Hammer and Anvil is about 1100.
Anyone ever figure out how much Area you get in a Vanguard Strike deployment zone?

The numbers are a lot easier if you think about it negatively.
All types have the same total board area. Of this area, some is neither Deployment Zone. The remaining area is split the same way (half each) for all types.
All have a 24" wide no-mans-land.
Its 6' long for Dawn of war
Its 4' long for Hammer and Anvil
You can fit a rectangle in it in Vanguard that is 24" wide and longer than 6' long.
Forget running the numbers. Vanguard's not-deployment is clearly the longest edge, thus the biggest. So the smallest deployment zone.
Hammer and Anvil is the smallest negative area, so clearly the largest deployment zone.
Dawn of War feels largest, but the length is misleading.

Dawn of war: 6 sq. feet
Hammer and Anvil: 8 sq. feet
Vanguard: 5.88 sq. feet
The vanguard deployment zone has edges of 2.8 and 4.2 feet

Or you could just run the numbers instead of trying to find some rough approximation. It's really simple math:
Long edge: 864 square inches.
Short edge: 1152 square inches.
Diagonal: 845 square inches (+/- rounding error)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

While running the numbers is good, having a firm understanding of why those numbers makes sense is very useful! Thanks to both of you!

I'm surprised, looking at the boards I wouldn't have guess that hammer is the biggest deployment zone. my guess was that vanguard would have been the biggest of all three and its the smallest.

Math is fun. Running numbers is boring.
They both show it clearly.

It looks like he ran the numbers, he just did optimization not geometry, much more practical in this discussion.
