So I was just browsing GW and the SM assault squad is showing "no longer available". Also gone is the Angels Wrath "web bundle", which is made of two assault squads. Don't know what to make of this!

Assault Marines are one of the oldest marine kits now. Their upgrade sprue with the torsoes and jetpacks showed up in 4th, but the bodies and legs are older.

They are also removed from order lists, just like the Codex and supposedly Devastators.

Probably a new kit of 5 men for $40, just like the Vanguard vets, but less bling, and more pistols and CCW instead of the THSS and TLLC.

Plastic Devastators are fairly recent, aren't they?

Devastators came out in 2007 with the Dark Angels codex.

The assault box was out in full plastic in 3rd edition and the one we have now is just a recut (4th edition i presume)
