Subject: Space Marines to compliment Blood Angels?

A friend of mine is finally dabbling the hobby after playing with my armies for a while. Our lgs hosts doubles tournaments every month, and he wants to start a space marine army to compliment my blood angels.
I don't know much about the Codex outside of the things that I learned for Codex: Blood Angels, so, any suggestions?
It's 1000 points per person (for a 2000 point game). Automatically Appended Next Post: My Blood Angels are very aggressive and assault based, so should he focus on shooting?

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

A nice defensive gunline might be good. The BA will be up close smashing face, so your backfield might be a little exposed. I would recommend Imperial Fists, since they buff their Devastators and Centurion Devastators. Being able to put Tank Hunting Centurion Devastators in Drop Pods is a huge boon. Another option would be good ole' Ultramarines as well. I would avoid Raven Guard, White Scars, and Black Templars as they overlap quite a bit with what you are doing with BA.

Interesting, I'll suggest it, thanks for the response.
Also, does anyone know some good AA in Space Marines? Because we need some. Is the Storm Talon any good?

Stormtalon with Skyhammer Missile Launchers can glance basically any flyer to death. I run one with my Crimson Fists. Between the Assault Cannons and the SML, you can put the hurt on most anything. It is, IMO, the go to C: SM AA. The AA tanks (Hunter/Stalker) lack Interceptor so they are liable to be blown off them map before they can do anything. The Talon can Jink to help mitigate that.

Storm Talon is excellent for its cost, but who knows what the upcoming codex holds?
PS: New SM Codex is rumoured to be next, might want to hold off on purchases until it drops.
Currently, Iron Hands makes an excellent mix with BA. Use the Iron Hands to boost a ruin, so that your Scout Tax has somewhere to hide. From there, all the vehicles get bonuses to survivability, and that's what you'd want more than anything else. Vehicles with a free benefit. Undying Land Raiders, or Ravens, are good times. Use your Mandatory HQ to buy a Master of the Forge. As an Iron Hand, he gets a bonus to his repair roll. You're regenerating HP like crazy if he's on board.
I'd wait till the codex drops though, unless he has models he's sure to want. The Nerf bat is a mysterious creature, and you never know where it will roost.

Agreed here. For the most part, I am holding off on my C: SM purchases until then. Gives me some ability to get my BA figured out a little more. The only C: SM purchase I am getting is a Stalker, since I like the way it looks and it isn't like they can really Nerf it into something worse than it already is.
