Recently, I notice most of the fleets I have been posting have been maximizing some aspect of one faction, either trying to maximize the effects of a commander, or maximizing the amount of X ship in a fleet, or both!

So, I've got two questions for you all: 1) Do you think these kinds of fleets, fleets that focus on a single element of the arsenal of a faction, are better than fleets that try to cover all bases? 2) What fleets like these have you come up with?

Still so new to the game. I've been choosing ships and squadrons to fill a specific role and trying to have them execute it. As for commaders I've been trying to stay away from the big guys (Gram/Tarkin). They are quite nice but I don't want to over use them.

1)I think that highly polarised forces are a damned good way to explore what works in a game and fits with your individual play style. The jury is still out however on whether they will come out on top in competitive play. I rather suspect that due to the variables of mission play and the fighter mini-game that more balanced fleets may yet triumph.
2)I've been focusing exclusively on running double Assault Frigates since the Wave One release and will be until I've been to my first tournament at the end of June. The most recent iteration of my list is-

Don't you have to have some kind of commander, and thus a flagship?

Yes, you always have to field a admiral. However, I think he might be saying he is using other commanders than those 2?
