I definitely agree. I went for black with red highlights on the cloak, just to give them a touch o' traditional. Also, will you be using castellax's instead of kastelans for the whole army?

GW Paints: Mech Stan Grey for the base over black primer. 2-3 very thin layers. 2 diluted nuln oil washes. For the light/ towards highlights - approx 6-8 layers with feathering going from Eshin Grey >>> Dawnstone but never quite getting to pure dawnstone. I think I put a really diluted nuln wash on halfway through the layers. Finally a very diluted eshin grey/nuln glaze to bring it all together

This is looking promising. I really like the way that you create diorama bases for all of your models so as to turn them into display pieces for the shelf as well as excellent gaming models.

Cheers Az. The dios are really (usually ) fun to think up and make but the real reason I like doing them is (I think) they add context and even a wee bit of story to the figs....usually the story that seems to grow in my head whilst painting the figs.

Wow. That's a lot. I'll just go and stay with my black with a drybrushed gray

you can go that way too. gives a nice rough effect. Layers work better if youre wanting a smoother finish. Once you get into the swing of it, it's a quick enough process; as you move onto another area the previous area is drying.

Impressive work on the figures and dio, Januine!

I've been silently following this one develop, and i'm left without words. Your paint scheme is really outstanding, and while i started gluing my Dominus as well, i envy your patience. How many layers of grey, again ?!?

The diorama really adds a lot to the models, and the rust fits just great. Once again, congrats, looking forward tomwhat you've got next in store

Thanks very much folks. Really apprieciate the comments. I think it worked out at about 10 or 11 shades of grey if we count each layer as a shade! This one was really fun to do. Two stunning sculpts. Loved doing the old rusted gantry as it was also my first time using weathering powders. They can get everywhere and for the love of all - don't blow on them as I found out ><
Thx again for looking and the comments - great start to the day

I know it's kinda after the fact but I wanted to pop up the WiP photos of the Dio that I just finished. One or two of them are already here earlier in this plog but hey-ho just want to put them altoghet for anyone who's interested

I should add that the base and the ganrty were painted separetly and then put together at the very end. Also the whole thing was given about 3-4 coats of watered down PVA glue to seal both the cork (which it kinda does) but more importantly the edges of the 3mm foamboard. Without that seal the spray paint eats into the exposed foam and looks kinda gak when you paint it. Anyways, any questions please ask away

Thx but I wouldnt quite say I'm that good yet. Working on it lol

The mesh is jsut some metal stamped mesh I bought in a local arts'n'crafts shop. Comes in sheets about A4 size. It wasn't exactly the type I was looking for but it worked pretty well. Bit of an ass to cut though

Really love your take on the Robot and Handler, the grey works so well.

I really, really like scenic bases that you do (across all of your work); they really make the models stand out for display purposes and I like how you make them removable for more practical gaming purposes.

Hey there fella - Thx so much. That really means a lot
With my admech I wanted to do my own colour scheme; more along the lines of how I'd imagined them for years of reading the books n fluff.
When I started back painting again last Decemeber with the DV boxed set I immediately wanted to make wee scenic bases and the like to show the figs in context...kinda like a little snapshot of their world if that makes any sense. I don't actually game....it's nt really a big thing out here in Korea and the nearest place (read 'only' that I know of) is over an hour away and a bit of a hassle to get to. Still......I wanted to make the figs fully removable so they could be use in game or even switched out so other figs could be put into the dioramas. It's a total learn as you go along process making those dios but damn but I love doing it!!!!!!!
