Ok so here's the deal I play DA , I have 3 sets of tactical terminators on sprue, 2 sets of assault terminators, 2 sets of the deathwing command terminators(might get a third.) and enough bits to convert the non DA terminators. i was going to sell some of my terminators on eBay along with other stuff(might put them here before I try eBay). I think I'll get more money for the assault than the tactical terminators so I was going to sell those, that would leave me with no thunder hammers. So I was going to use the maces from the DW box as thunder hammers. I don't play at any of the big tournaments just occasionally go to local store turnaments and play pick up games. Do you think people would give me problems for calling power mauls(that's what the maces technically are) thunder hammers?
Just want to know what the community thinks before I make a decision,

Personally I think it's fine. So long as they're obviously Deathwing Terminators rather than Knights, you should be fine.

Yeah I run squads of 6 3 hammers, heavy weapon sergeant and a normal dood so it'll be clear which are the hammers.

Anyone who would complain is just a douche. Simple as that. These are your minis, your time, your money. Nobody can tell you what to do with your man dollies, or toy soldiers.

So yes anyone who say so other wise is just a douche.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

A nicer way of saying that is just ask the person if they are ok with you "proxying" a few things. If they say NO! then read again what Davor said and just tell your opponent to go feth himself.

now if you go to a tourny they might get a bit upset but otherwise your good buddy.

I always alternatively model my weapons. I dislike Hammers as weapons, but I use TH rules for my Chapter Masters Halberd.

I subscribe to the rule of cool above all else.

That lone guardsman may not be able to duel wield storm bolters, but if it looks as badass as it sounds, I'll let it slide provided the actual written rules (I.E. Firing as a Lasgun) is followed

As long as your wargear is clearly written down so I can see at a glance what you have, its all good.

Dont DA have an actual terminator unit that has storm shields and maces? I don't remember right, but if they do, it maybe a bit confusing for your opponents.

So long as ALL the power mauls in your army are being treated as thunder hammers, I don't think there'd be any issues. Once some are and some aren't, then it gets confusing for your opponent to tell the difference at a glance and you should do some extra modelling to make things clear on the minis.

Deathwing Knights.

If its stated ahead of time I don't see the issue, but in all fairness, The knights stand out a fair bit (Robes, Giant shields)

I don't know if someone cares about robes. But if he sees dudes with shields and maces then, at least imo, there is a bigger chance he will expect dudes with maces and shields and not thunder hammers and stormshields.

yea I'll basically be using the deathwing knight model with the big shield and mace.(and robes I think they look waaaayyy to cool to not have the robes on.) the DW knights all need to have maces you can't have mix like the normal DW terminators. So it'll be obvious they are just normal DW cuz I run squads of six(3 hammers, heavy weapon, a normal dood and the sergeant)

I wouldn't make a huge deal of it, but I'd be a touch annoyed if someone ran the exact DW knight models as standard DW, especially if some of the squad dies and you're left with just knights. If it's a small game I'd be fine, but if we're playing for awhile I might get them confused with actual knights if the rest of the squad dies. I'd recommend using the normal termi bodies and just giving them the maces (count as hammers) and SS so that they're distinctly different and much less likely to result in "wait, I thought that squad was knights!".

It's going to depend on the person. Eventually it gets difficult to keep track of what's WYSIWYG and what's not. I'm fine with it generally, but it can get old and frustrating even so. As others said, you should not mix whatsoever or it's going to be confusing as all get out and extremely annoying.

In a tournament I would not be okay with it.
