It depends on the effect he wants. The painting guide in the old Codex: Daemonhunters suggested glazing the Grey Knights figures with blue ink(?) to give them a slightly bluish look to their metalic armor.

Well, here is the first GK that I finished up. I think I am going to pass on trying to make them have a blue tint as the wash gets lost after using black wash before hand.
