Hrm, not always.

Drop Pods have always been specifically and repeatedly described as being lethal to any but a Space Marine to use. Likewise, when transports are treasured relics of inestimable age, they're often not the sort of thing you just let anyone hop in and take for a spin. Land Raiders are, by the Emperor's decree, to be used only by the Astartes, so packing one full of Ogryn or Skitarii and the like would be extremely awkward.

SOB had Drop Pods in Citadel Journal.

SoB are also said to use them. Their power armor isn't as good as a marine's in the support department but apparently good enough that they will come down alive in a drop pod. I didn't abuse this in our group's latest tournament but it would have been both fluffy and effective. Four heavy flamers, flamers or meltguns at point blank? Yes, please.

By that logic, Skitarii should have no problem surviving the drop. There's barely any human left there anyhow

But regardless, that doesn't help in non-drop-pod situations, and in Xenos, like Eldar/Dark Eldar/Harlequin. I mean, Harlequin normally hang around Commoragh, right? They'd be used to Raiders. And contrary to other settings, in 40k, the space elves and dark elves are not mortal enemies.

Also, it doesn't account for psychic powers, like Grey Knights Draigo teleporting Ultramarines Centurions, or Dark Eldar Webway Portal for Eldar. Those aren't strictly speaking "transports", but they fall into the same category of getting slow troops to where they need to be.

They have the breaching drill. They don't need Pods.

Sounds like a crazy fun event so long as the group is chill

As to BBBFFs being able ride together?

I have no issues with it. makes banshees slightly useable. in very specific situations.

But it gets silly with renta pods which i disapprove (IIRC Fluff wise i though most things cant survive the drop besides marines)

They can't take breaching drills, only Engineers can.

But you know, based on how stealers and stealer-cults work in the fluff... this has probably happened at least once, at some point, on some distant planet!

Some corrupted guard/marine commander agrees to let his cult-partriarch-master load up 'friends' in some appropriated rhinos and land raiders! Yumm!

Skitarri are imperials and if they are battle brothers they can be in a drop pod as long as you purchase a BA or SW drop pod from the fast attack section (most likely a SM soon).

Only for engies, and the wonky drill rules mean you can't fling anything but engies at your enemy

Well to be fair the Skitarii are pretty bad went it comes to getting across the board.

You should be more specific: Skitarri troops have it bad getting across the board. Other skitarii, such as rust stalkers in a killcade, are some of the fastest moving units in the game. They add 3 inches to their movement any time they move, run, or charge. And in the killcade, any turn after the first they can run and charge in the same round. That means they can threaten up to 33 inches away with a charge. That's the longest distance single-round charge threat in 40k.

Then you have their walkers that have scout, acute senses, and the same ability to add 3 inches to all movement, runs, and charges. On top of that, you can get them in a formation that lets them outflank with accute senses on turn 1.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

In the book Skitarius, the Skitarii are described as a very drop-heavy army, using drop ships that are massive compared to anything the rest of the empire uses, and are basically huge containers of ceramite plating. The Skitarii in the book get attacked by fighter ships and put their drop ships into a controlled vertical barrel roll, crashing through a formation of Chaos flyers, destroying them while taking what is reported as "minor hull damage."

It's a poorly written pile of ramble, but it is canon.

I want those drop ships.

Fire Dragons in a Venom with Splinter Cannon is better.

I like having the option of putting Harlies into Raiders instead of Starweavers, just for the increased capacity.

Not to mention they are assualt vehicles, take the Dark Eldar formation with 3 raiders and 2 venoms which equals awesome for harliquins. load the venoms up with minimum squads of DE warriors and place the DE HQ of your choice in one raider with some harlies.

It's obvious (to me anyway ) that Skitarii were designed to be a very lethal short-range shooting infantry army, using lots of Vanguard, that is balanced by lack of transports. In fact it says specifically in the codex that Rangers do not use transports. That's why they can get army-wide Scout and so forth. And Dunestrider -- the same reason Hormagaunts get Bounding Leap, and Banshees get Acrobatic. They're not meant to assault, or attack, out of transports. Adding transports wrecks this completely, and is frankly emblematic of 1) what I don't like about 40K and 2) what seems to be a schizophrenic design philosophy on the part of GW. Almost as if the designers were trying to write self-contained codexes but someone else was pushing the game in a different direction.

see Fire Dragons in Raiders as well. It's ridiculous.

I actually prefer the Starweavers to the Venoms. 6 man capacity instead of 5 means I can load 5 warriors with splinter rifles and still have room for a deathjester in there. What's also nice about the Ralspace detachment is that I can add these raiders and still have room to take a reaver sqd (or two)

Oh just wait for Genestealer Cult Limousines. Make them an assault vehicle and have goofy mechanized Red-carpet celebrity themed tyranid armies.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
