This is mainly about dice roles.

Based on a normal move not difficult terrain easy example first move of the game. So If you rolled say a six does your unit have to move six? or can you choose to move say 5 instead?

Main question about 7th Edition does anyone know by chance if it is soon to be replaced by 8th?

I think you need to specify more on what you are talking about, if it is difficult terrain rolls or run moves the you can move up to the die roll, same with regular movement, so you can move anywhere between 0-2D6 (pick the highest number) movement for terrain, or 0-D6 for run. If you are talking about fall back, hit and run, etc(which I don't think you are,) you must move the full distance (but those examples use multiple D6s)

There are no 8th Edition rumors, but who knows when they will start showing up.

All moves at heart are "up to" a distance. If you roll a 6, 1 you can move up to 6".

Well if this is just a normal move and not in difficult terrain, then you wouldnt need to roll anything. Infantry can move up to 6 inches.

But for any movement that does require a dice roll, you do not have to move the full distance rolled

I would like to point out that Hit & Run is an exception to the above - you must move the number of inches rolled.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Charge Distances are another exception, right? If you have 9" of movement you have to continue to put models in base contact until everything within 9" has a model in base contact before you can just start moving to 'engage'.

I believe a lot of compulsory movement, like fall back moves, also require you to move the full distance.
