Okay so i'm planing to create my own Space Marine chapter as it would allow me to (correct me if I'm wrong) play with whatever tactic I like from the SM codex and allow me to use my own colour scheme. So, I want to create a roman themed chapter but I'd like to organize it for example in cohorts and not like squads. Would that still allow me to use, say the ultramarines tactics? Also, as for the colour scheme I had in mind to paint them in a gray-silvery colour (like the Astral Claws) but with red shoulder pads with gold trims and red knee pads. Also, I would paint veteran's helmets like gold/bronze and sergeant's red, for example, and that is also going against the Codex Astartes. Oh and btw does anybody know where I could find kits or model parts that look roman? Thanks!

GW has a preorder up for an ultramarines upgrade sprue, and they are "roman themed". Also you could take a look at forgeworld.

Welcome to Dakka!

Rulewise, very few people have a problem with using the 'wrong' Chapter Tactics outside of tournaments so long as you make it clear which ones you are using, so you're fine on that front.

As for organisation, I personally would recommend you don't deviate from the standards 10 Companies of 10 Squads setup, but even that is somewhat Roman: a Company is 100 guys, so a Century, and many Chapters have individual names for commanders, so by all means call your Captains/Sergeants/Masters Centurions/Legates/Praetors ect. (Back in the Horus Heresy, most Legions did use a similar system).

Again, you've got free reign to make your markings different, most Chapters do. Just keep it consistent and you'll probably get a lot of praise for it.

As for Romanesque bits, Anvil Industry do some in their Exo-Lords range, which is all excellent stuff, and Spellcrow, Kromlech and Maxmini might well do some suitable parts. Forge World also do some Ultramarine stuff that is pretty Roman.

Thanks for the tips man!

Yeah I've seen those but the problem is they all have the Minotaurs insignia and I'm trying to make my own chapter, I mean I would've gone with the Minotaurs only that I'd like to go full roman and avoid greek themed models

Scibor Miniatures also makes Roman style marines, but they're a bit on the larger side.

Thanks for the link! It's perfect though what I meant before is that I'm trying to go full roman and avoid full greek influence (like spartan)...or maybe it's just me and I read that wrong? Also...as for the name I was thinking of "Legio Virtutis" or Legio Victrix", that any good?

Oh honestly dont know the diffrence

It looks pretty close i though.

The items are also probably named by name and not actual cultural accuracy so dig around.

plenty of 3rd party producer of parts.

Ultramarines are *the* Roman themed chapter. If you dont want to do UM to avoid chapter tactics confusion, then literally do whatever you want, but for the most part youre probably going to end up using UM bits with the UM insignia cut off or sculpted over (depending on what you go with).
