So there is a girl that wants to get into warhammer 40k, (sorry if this isnt in the right thread) but we want to have a painting date so i'd thought of how about model painting? She is really into painting. She plays other games like Magic and dungeons and dragons. But i also wamt her to get into the meta of warhammer (the tournment is hosted every month) i'm starting eldar currently, but I want her to be able to paint the models however she wants and if she did it would make the models look good either way. I was thinking tau but does anyone have a nice list for her to start so she can at least place.

What does she want to play?

I'd show her all the choices and figure out which army she'd enjoy painting more and/or enjoying playing. My wife was going to start Orks because she liked the models but she knew she'd get frustrated with how disposable their units were in game. So she went with Necrons for their resiliency and general forgiveness in game. She enjoyed coming up with her own paint scheme for them involving more than just 'metal' (added teal and gold).

Necrons are easy to play right now and forming an army list is easy if you create a Decurion Detachment. Like the Eldar Warhost, it forces you to take a variety of units which is great from a modeling perspective because you're not stuck painting the same units over and over to remain competitive.

But figure out her preference before you buy anything.

Hard to go wrong painting wise with vehicles, even a half assed job can look decent - why not go mech heavy - IG or SM rhino rush etc.

If she likes painting I would suggest eldar to her as well, you two could also share bits

If she likes tau I hear taking 3 riptides, minimum fire warriors, markerdrones attached to a crisis commander, and skyrays is good.

Triptide can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing.

Take her to the store and show her the armies than whichever one she shows the most interest in is the one for her.

I would show her all the armies and give the pro's and con's to each in game play. It is was I did with my girlfriend when said she wanted to play. She choose sister of battle or whatever their called now even though I told her they aren't the best in game play. So you never know she might like Eldar or she may like orks cause their cute or she might like marines or necrons because they are very flexible.
