What do you guys think? Once I get him and the rest of his squad built and painted it will be time for slaying warp abominations!

Do you have a hobby knife? I suggest you get into the habit now of clearing the mold lines and the chunks leftover from the sprue. The model will then be officially assembled
So far so good though.
Just so you know what I am talking about, just under the b;lade is a chunk, on the helmet above the eye, on the end of the barrel and then you got the lines on the model (when you paint them they will show) which is on most bits.

Loos good! I second the point about cleaning up the sprue chunks though. If you can, I suggest you get a hobby drill and drill out the barrels of the guns too!

Looking good! Another thing that might help is to leave the arms off to paint him, and glue them on after. There are pros/cons to doing this, but I find it makes it easier to paint detail on the chest, etc.
Cleaning mold lines is perhaps the most tedious and boring part of the hobby, but will [/i]really[/i] help improve your finished product. Use the sharp side of your knife to knock off the big chunks, and then scrape the back of the blade down the lines to help smooth them out. Start with a light hand at first, until you get a good idea how much force is needed. And watch the blade, as always.
Welcome to Dakka and the hobby!

This guy is right. Get into doing would lines now or forever hear about it. Dakka will hound you about mould lines harder than a wife nagging her man.

As a first model: well done!
Lining up the arms with the pole-arm is no easy thing as a beginner.
My first model was a Spitfire when I was 12yrs.
I could say all kinds of advice but many good people have published some nice material to look at on this subject:
http://www.scalemodelguide.com/construction/techniques/how-to-glue-parts-together/
Ummm... this guide is "heavy duty" but will answer pretty much any question:
http://www.finescale.com/~/media/Files/PDF/How%20To/EasyScaleModeling.pdf
My favorite part is the assembly, I hope at some point you look at what is involved for basing and painting.
There is a lot to this hobby for sure.
Good Luck!
