The terrain and armies are always beautiful and the commentary is good, but I have to be honest: the batreps are pretty predictable at this point. Whether by skill or luck or a combination of both, your Dark Eldar win a vast majority of the time. You borrowed your friend's IG, played a couple games with them (and lost], then you went right back to your comfort zone.

The terrain setup on this last report was also terrible. The defense line was behind a gigantic, LOS-blocking piece of terrain, and there were huge, blind spots where you could conveniently hide most of your army from his shooting attacks. Unfortunately, I've unsubbed because the reports are just not particularly entertaining anymore.

It might not be my place to comment on the above post.. But are you serious? His MAIN army is dark eldar. That is what Skari has always used (from when I started watching his channel) I think its more than just a comfort zone. It's the army he has painted, learned how to play and enjoys playing (I assume).

I've tried other armies (Tyranids, Astra, ultramarines) but always come back to eldar/dark Eldar because its what I enjoy playing/what I've put time into. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but "then you went right back into your comfort zone" seems like you're offended or upset about it. Grow up. As far as you know he could play outside of the battle reports he posts and maybe he uses other armies. But his channel has for the most part been dedicated to dark eldar and as a dark eldar player I'm glad to see him go back to using the dark kin. For me his channel has been a tremendous source of insight to using the dark eldar effectively.

Again maybe I'm reading your post wrong but "huge blind spots where you could conveniently hide most of your army" sounds like you're calling him out for setting up the terrain to his advantage. Were you there when it was set up? Maybe him and his opponent set up the terrain together and thats what it ended up looking like. I guess I'm sorry that using LOS blocking terrain makes things less entertaining for you. I personally find lots of LOS blocking terrain adds finesse to the game, you have to think a lot more about deployment, where your next move will be and how you can possibly counter your opponents move. Whereas with little to no LOS blocking terrain turns the game into a I can shoot you no matter what you try to do! sort of thing. In my experience it makes the game less fun. Anyway, I just saw the above post and had a moment.

Sorry for the rant,
Keep it up Skari, good report!

I've watched his channel for some time, too. I'm perfectly aware that the Dark Eldar are his favorite army. Why are you personally offended that I don't like something you like? My point was that he did some IG tacticas, did a video introducing a new army to the channel, lost a couple games, then we went back to what he wins with.

You're not reading anything wrong. It's pretty obvious that that terrain setup was horrible for the IG player. Was it done intentionally? I don't know, but if I was his opponent, I certainly would have pointed it out as being a bit advantageous for him. My friends and I play with a good amount of LOS-blockng terrain, too. But we also try and make it so that the shooty guy has a chance to get a turn or two of shooting before the assaulty guy is on top of him.

It's almost as if the Youtube comments section just bled into dakka. Can't criticize someone's favorite tuber, amirite?

Don't need to defend myself. Everyone has a right to have an opinion. Sad that I lost your sub. May you find the content you are looking for ! thanks for watching tho.

do t feel like I need to explain but here goes... This was a thematic batrep not in the IG favour at all this mission is not exactly "balanced" We set terrain beforehand and THEN rolled for sides... As the winner of that roll I clearly made it harder for my opponent (my brother, we always go for the throat) .

This battle report was a narrative experience, a way to tell a story and one of a few in a series.

As for my "comfort zone" . My channel is manly dedicated to the dark kin. Family and work has limited my gaming time and I had to choose between doing a bunch of random stuff or sticking to my "niche" . People usually sub to the channel because they have some interest (dark desire or something) about the dark city. I'm not going to defend me winning either! Lol some call me a lucky bugger, dirty dark eldar or what not but I don't always win, and there are a few times that I have really gotten stomped! I just know how to playy army against my regular opponents well.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I greatly appreciate the time that you have used to post here as it allows me to continue to improve the content that I provide for those that watch and sub.

Cheers! Now let's keep this thread civil and not degenerate into a troll or flame fest, no need for that. Enjoy the batrep !

No flaming here. Just offering my uninformed opinion Again, I think the reports are well done and formatted and certainly nothing personal. The games have just become a little one-sided and one-dimensional for my tastes. I'll keep up on the channel, and if you decide to add a bit more variety of armies, I'll definitely re-sub.

I would like to echo the above poster's comments. Over all, your content is my favorite on youtube in terms of tone, approach, and thoughtfulness. I would suggest you continue and make that your niche.

There are lots of "reviews" that echo internet opinions and battle reports where stuff moves, shoots and dies, but very little in terms of strategic or tactical thinking. You were very successful; how did you engineer that? What did you do on the table to make it happen so well? What did your opponent do that hampered you/could have done to hamper you?

Perhaps integrate a pre-turn "goals" section for each player (you can summarize what they tell you or have them say it) and then an "outcomes" situation at the end of the turn. This is in contrast with "I moved forward. X Y and Z died to shooting." Why did you do those things? Why was your shooting/assault so effective? How was your opponent trying to handle your success? Why did/didn't it work?

Based off of your incredible Dark Eldar review, I think you have the mind, talent, and patience to make something like this happen. I really think it would set you apart from others on the web and allow you to stake a claim to a currently important but lacking set of content.

(Also more AM vids please! )

Feel free to PM me with questions/comments, and I hope you take this post in the positive constructive light in which it was written!

Cheers,
Ether

Great feedback! Some of my battle reports featured a "movement phase" that allowed for exactly that... A chance to talk about what was happening for the turn. This is my vision, the only downside is the added time to film and edit. At the moment my time is at a premium starting a business. But I do have a vision that has been executed well before and will be once more!
