I've recently come back to painting, only to discover that the medium in many of my paints had separated from the pigment. Unfortunately some of the pots do not close at a parallel angle, even with the little knob at the back in the correct place, so I was wondering how to restore my paints before they completely dry out. Any help would be appreciated.

If these are Games Workshop paint pots:

1. Take a sculpting tool or other hard, metal object that isn't too sharp, and scrape off the excess paint on the lip so that the cover will close properly. Note that you can remove the entire fliptop lid (just insert some flat tool like a screwdriver or sculpting tool under the plastic ring and gently lift).

2. Add some Lahmian medium (not very much) and it will restore nicely.

You can also spin the fliptop around, to get better access to the other side, as the area that accumulates paint is the area right behind the tab.

Thanks. I have some of that medium as well as 'Ard Coat for transfers. I noticed the medium was also good to thin base paints into glazes so I actually wondered about whether or not it could reconstitute a base paint. Glad to hear it can.

Yea this is cool thanks. I actually mixed the pigment and original medium together and the paint reformed almost completely. I'll just get some medium to apply to help out along the way (I wanted some for painting purposes anyway)
