Manhattan

First off is a question.

Can Manticores/Basllicks/Wyverns with camo netting still get cover saves from behind a Wall of Martyrs since 25% of the model is covered like they could from the Aegis Defence Line? Otherwise if they can't this is a dead discussion.

Assuming that is true...

(Please note I run foot Astra Militarum with full 50 man platoons and many many lascannon HWS) and 3 Wyverns all the way in the back bubble-wrapped by my spare guys from my 50 man platoons (too bad drop-pod melta/assault space mariners)

What is the superior entrenchment for my army? Aegis Line you can take a Icarus Lascannon or Autocannon but only gives cover from 1 direction. Wall of Martyrs gives subborn but is a full 30 pts more expensive and in a large foot squad you probably have a commissar anyway who gives stubborn already and no guns.

Also what are your thoughts on the WoM: Imperial Defence Emplacements giving the bonus to your HWS teams?

Is the Aegis still king or WoM and the WoM Emplacements a good alternative?

Also does anyone take the Tank traps and Wire obstacles for the 10-30 points to put in front of their defence lines? I thought those options were cool.

Yes, they can get cover behind a wall of martyrs. However, if you had infantry in front of them inside the wall, that could cause them to give a cover save to your enemies if when looking through true LoS, you were shooting "between" the models rather than over them. So basically, if enemies got really close to you, your own troops/fortification would give them a cover save. Probably wouldn't have to worry about it until they were within 12 inches or so.

That said, I'd still go with an Aegis defense line. I'm pretty sure you can make it longer than the wall of martyrs, it's cheaper, gives the same cover save, and has gun options. The Aegis also has the same option to purchase obstacles like tanglewire, tank traps, and barricades. If for some reason the aegis sections don't provide you enough cover, you can buy up to 6 sections of "barricades" along with it for 10 points per section, basically giving the same 4+ save the Aegis gives. With Camo gear, that could give basically your entire army a 3+ cover save.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!
