Alright, so I am in the process of making a Lost and the Damned army and I am using these guys as cultists:

And I am putting a standard vox cast back pack on one guy from each squad. Along with that, I'm throwing in a Melta Gun and Plasma Gun in each squad.

My question was, for the specialists (vox controller/special weapons/squad leader), I was think of color coating their helmets. Such as the standard guard having a black helmet and specialists would have a grey one, while the vox caster might have a brown brain bucket. I just wanted you guys's opinion on what would work best in a Word Bearers inspired list.

Thanks!

For Word Bearers alignment? Red on red with red. My forces all have the same colour helmets, but you could easily use any colour that is not bright blue and still be looking Word Bearers-y.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I can see the in-game benefit of being able to identify the non-standard figures easily when you're moving them around.

But militarily, it's a terrible idea to tell the enemy who the best targets are

Okay, IG/SM are so old-fashioned that maybe they'd do so (just as real-world armies once did with their officers etc). Would heretic Guard? A fascinating philosophical question...

I definitely see your point in just making targets for the enemy, but I can totally see it because Grim-dark.

If you are looking at Pig Iron, then why not spend the additional 5 GBP and get the officers head sets, which has everything you are looking for? It's what I used, and thought was great.

What do you think of getting the head and backpack sprue kit and using some of the backpacks for specialists while using the helmets for tank crews or something?

I used the little head with an aerial for my radio dudes, the hats for my seargeants and peaked caps for the officers. I think your idea is good.

I think color coding heads will be fine

Especially in this setting

Even more so for gaming purposes (speed over camouflage)

If you are doing colors, mabye a stripe instead of the whole thing would be in order.

White for Leaders, Orange for specials, sky blue? for talkers?

I was thinking of doing symbols, much like the shoulder pads for the different space marine types, like the devastators, tactical, and assault marines.
