Sup dakka,

So I have a box of regular csm and I'm wondering if it's even worth it to actually build them as csm or if I should just convert them into plague marines. I have noticed a lot of people talking about how csm infantry are not very good in this meta but people are still playing plague marines in competitive lists.

So what should I do, build them as csm or convert them Into plague marines?

I'm also planning on converting my chosen into plague marines and using the champion as a sorcerer with a power axe. If I do choose to convert the csm I'm most likely going to use the chosen as champions for each unit. While I'm on this topic of conversions, I have 2 aspiring champions That I got for next to nothing. They are great looking models and I feel have great potential for hq conversions, problem is I have no idea what to do with them. A model with such a nice look and detail feels like such a waste as just an aspiring champion especially when it's pretty much the same cost as most hqs.

Any ways if you guys could give me some advice it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Cheers!

I'd personally stay away from regular CSM. I'm sure that some people out there use them to good effect, but they're just not as good as Cultists for way cheaper, or as most Cult Marines (like Plague Marines), which cost alot but come with decent rules and can be outfitted a bit better.

I'd personally go for Plague Marines, if (and only if) you actually want to do a Plague Marine-style army.

I'd have to see a picture of the Aspiring Champion you're talking about to make suggestions there. There is one model from the Dark Vengeance set holding a power maul that is just begging to be used as a Dark Apostle....not sure if this might be what you're talking about or not.

hey jasper thanks for the reply.

this is the chosen champion i was planning on useing as a sorcerer and im guessing this is the guy you are speaking about converting into a dark apostle. Now that you mention that i can totally see what you mean just throw a book in his left and and add some chaos spikes around his head and boom. Question is what is better a chaos sorcerer or a dark apostle?

this is the picture of the aspiring champion i was talking about.

let me know what you think.

Sorcerer vs. Dark Apostle? Sorcerer is a much better HQ option in my opinion, YMMV. But that dude with the power maul looks so much like a Dark Apostle, that I'd at least consider setting him aside for that purpose in case you ever want to add one to your army.

As for the second model, if that weapon on his backpack is a combi-melta (which it appears to be), you could use him as a Lord with a Power Axe, or a Sorceror with a Force Axe (I think a "Force Axe" is a thing), or a Searge for any unit. He's pretty fancy-pants.

Since that's my conversion, here's a quick rundown on what I did:

-Removed the front of the head, leaving the back of the scalp and the wiring intact.
- Remove the left arm from the shoulder pad, and attach the shoulder pad rim to the mini.
- Cut the helmet from the hand, shave the back flat, and attach that to what's left of the head.
- For the book arm, just take a normal Bolter-holding arm, cut it above the elbow piece and glue it on where you cut off the original arm. Glue the book in the hand, bending the fingers slightly to get a better 'grip'.
- You'll be left with a slot in the torso where the original arm slotted in, just glue a parchment or scroll over that and you're good to go!

Hope that's of some help.

Hey,

Great job on that conversion looks great. Not 100 percent sure if I'm going with the dark apostle conversion or not yet but if I do it looks like I'm pretty set.

Cheers.
