So with the Decurion I've shelved my ghost arks. I've noticed that I make less warriors all game than I can buy for their price almost and they get to shoot from turn 1. I've tried to run it over and over and I see instances where they are good like scatter bikes.... oh wait ranged D just wipes them out. I always have to move them with my warriors so their range is 12" which is .... no. Even melta guns are only okay because they go on fast units (reason I hate fire dragons is because they suck. You may think I'm wrong but I'm not. Easy kill point

Then with the devilfish. I hate this transport. 18 inch range and just pointless. Can't put pathfinders in it because they can't pop out and marker light and can't put fire warriors because it either nerfs their range or is itself out of range which makes it a 95pt rhino that can jink but with no storm bolter and front 12(because when you stop to pop the unit out its out of range)

The devilfish is a good transport. It's just that fire warriors aren't worth spending that much to transport around.

I just feel like it has no synergy with the army for the purpose it is supposed to fill. It doesn't tend to fit the tactics

Night Scythes do one job very well - transportation, and provide decent AA.

Ghost Arks are... well, you buy them for a bit of extra damage and to repair troops. Making Warriors ten minimum hurt their use pretty badly. Having said that, if you have enough other threats on the table that the opponent doesn't prioritize your GA, 5-10 extra gauss shots and a free warrior or three back per turn is pretty nice. Between the two, so long as it gets a turn or two in battle it should pay for itself in most situations.

Those are all true statements.

There's a number of units in this game that are good and pay a lot of points for being good, but then are good in a way that doesn't synergize with their army or just doesn't fulfill their role.

It's like when you mix weapons and you pay a fair price for an upgrade you end up not using.

The tau don't really have troops that are worth transporting in a devilfish

So hiding an ethereal is it?

About the night scythe... without obsec its actually a crappy transport since the units can't get back inside

I think the ghost ark is better at AV13 until the first pen and you can shoot from inside it. 4 tesla shots is okay for anti air but it's no crimson hunter at basically the same cost. I guess I don't worry about AA with necrons too much, and with Tau well that's not relevant

An extremely mobile transport that poses no threat to its occupants if it gets destroyed is crappy? Eh?
Well of course it's not as good as a dedicated anti-air unit. -_-

Ghost Arks pop pretty easy is the problem. Open Topped AV13

Ghost arks are awesome. They got cheaper, better firepower at 12-24, being open topped AV13 makes them an excellent gunboat, and the decurion giving warriors relentless makes it a good way to maximize warrior damage output by letting your warriors shoot and assault out if it. I wouldn't play crons without it.

Nightscythe is a solid transport/anti-air choice. They got more expensive, but are still very viable.

For tau I like the devilfish for some mobile scoring potential. Helps break the gunline mentality.

Yeah, the devilfish is costly for what it does. Let's hope we get some kind of bonus with the new codex.

The best use for it is to field 2+, each with a full FW squad -but one has 1 less model, being replaced by an Ethereal. Advance them (be sure to buy at least sensor spines for each Devilfish) and disembark the FWs 15" of an enemy. If you did activiate Storm of Fire at the beginning of your turn, they'll triple-tap their pulse weapons.
Don't forget to disembark the gun drones as well, to add to the slaughter (their carbines get +1 shot as well, but only at 9"). Don't buy the upgrade weapons for the devilfish - they have a cost, while for Sky Rays and Hammerhead they're free.
After shooting with your FWs, flat out your fishes to bar the way for charging enemies and to give 5+ cover to your ground fellas.

It's a bit costly strategy, but it'll delete low-armoured or small-model count elite units. Don't try it against Dark Artisan DE formation, though.

Inquisitor ones with 5 fire points and twin psybolt heavy bolters, yes.

The more expensive IG ones with lessfire points and worse weapons, not as much.
