Hey guys! First post so please dont kill me too much.

After looking through the Cult Mech and Skitarii books I decided on getting a few Kataphrons. Then I saw the price. Im sorry GW but I'm in no position to pay $60 for three models. Sorry. So I decided on making some conversions. I already have ideas for:

Heads:

http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/product/chem-mask-heads-x10
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/Exo-Lords/Heads-helmets-crests/Grill-Heads

Tracks:
http://www.brother-vinni.com/shop.htm#!/Crawler-Cyborg/p/36119396/category=5965003
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=382

Large Guns:
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=251
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=276
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=247
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=229
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=232

Torsos:
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=200
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/AFTERLIFE/Republic/Goliath
Possibly terminator torsos

Backpacks:
http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/torsos-and-arms/biohazard-backpacks-bits
http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/product/5-chem-tank-backpacks

I won't even list small guns. Way too many options.

So That's all that I have found so far. I'm not so sure about the scale of either sets of track. If anybody has ordered them I would appreciate it if you could tell me how big they are. I am also not too keen on any of my torso choices, so any options are welcome. Finally, I need tech-y bits to make them look like they belong in an admech force.

Thanks guys!

Yeah...pricing these out, the bits will cost you significantly more than $60.00. The Puppets war tracks are close to fit for the size, but you only get one per pack at $10.58. The striker torsos would have to be cut at the waist since the torsos and legs are one piece. You're better off shelling out the $60.00 for the three models.

I know that the Biohazard packs are a bit larger than Space Marine backpacks, and they look really awesome, a friend of mine gave his Plague Marines those, and they are cool bits.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Does anybody know of other tracks that fit the size?

These would probably work.

Since the tracks have zero rules effect, you could replace them with legs, wheels, anti-grav, or whatever?

I personally think the tracks look pretty cool, so I'm pretty set on those. I was thinking about getting small tanks, perhaps from Zvezda, and just putting the torso where the gun goes. Do you think 1/100 scale would be too small?

Anything that fits nicely on a 40mm base should be fine, overall size-wise, however the individual tracks and wheels could look a bit small at 1:100 - try for tanks with wide tracks and large wheels (e.g. a T34?). Or light tanks/tankettes at a larger scale?

I thought it was a 60mm base. That's what GW's site says it comes with...

I don't think there's a way to drop the price any significant amount by converting, unless you go scratchbuild on the tank chassis. That's the expensive part, all the rest of it is easily obtainable bits. Your best bet is plasticard'ing a square box and those hexagonal side armor panels for the tank part, then using something like chimera or rhino tread bits to form the tracks.

Otherwise you might as well just get the models and save yourself a bunch of time.

Just for clarification, as I didn't make this clear, I am not doing this ONLY to save money, but also to have a more varied and unique army. Thanks.

Oops, quite right, I meant 60mm
