saw a local shop selling of some older looking 40k metal minis?

So any rare or desirable minis worth looking out for, it was mostly characters?

Almost every shop has metal minis stashed away (unsold)

The trick is to know their MSRP and in-game value. You want to buy models that are going to have play value, and also be at some discount from what you can get just from GW directly.

Interesting to know. A local store here got boxes full to. Seen some White Dwarf Aniversary ones (The Dwarf shield carrying ones.) Lots of old Dark Eldar, old Bloodletters, Nurgle Beastmen, Khorne Beastmen. I think I seen an old Keeper of Secrets to. Old metal Marine Dread to.

No clue if any of those are rare, but I never seen them around a whole lot. At least I know why the Keeper of Secrets isn't, the things horrifying. A lot of fun seeing that old stuff, kinda nostalgic. There's always a person who wants them, but if they go for good prices. No idea.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Not an old dreadnought . Those things fell apart if you looked at them funny. I don't think much mileage you will get out of Dark Eldar, since they killed all the characters. Dunno about Chaos stuff, sorry

Sometimes, I see a good deal on Sisters and buy them

Citadel Miniatures Catalog has a large quantity of pictures of the old metal minis. Personally, I find the old SM models all very much gak, but you may find them different

Also the site has a link to the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Wiki which is very useful.

The metal DE archons are pretty in demand. I don't know that you could turn a profit on them, though.

Yes! I have one of those that I'm still in the process of fixing up. I love that tough and nasty style of Keeper!

Inquisitorial things seem to be in demand on ebay, which is understandable because they're some of the coolest minis ever.

Old chaos stuff is in demand too, as others have stated.
@The Grumpy Eldar: the metal Beastmen Khornigors and Pestigors seem to be pretty rare on ebay and I've seen them go for quite high prices, I would definitely say they're worth picking up.

The orks will look a little small compared to modern orks.

However.

Gorkamorka is always good. Its once of the best games GW ever produced in my not-so-humble opinion.
