Im looking to do some killteam soon.
What do you recommend as the best board size for it?
In terms of terrain what have you found to work best? open, area, blos, multi level etc?

thanks!

Nothing bigger than 4ft by 4ft.

Lot's of terrain.

Not having to worry about squad cohereney means that Multi level terrain works much better in Kill Team than it does in standard 40K games.

Thanks
Im looking to try a 2x2ft? Too close combat for certain killteam units?

Its fine so long as there is a LOT more vertical height which could also be just as fun as a 4x4

On a 2x2 you are going to need a lot of LOS blocking terrain, otherwise you'll just blow each other apart without even moving after deployment.

Thanks guys, Im going to try a 2x2 first with multiple verticals/blos first. Then move to a 4x4.
Cheers!

You going to be using the GW Rules or the Heralds of Ruin?

2x2 is ok for 200-250pt games, 3x3 250-300, and 4x4 300-350 and multi-player games.

Fan based rules. free and available.

Make sure if its 2x2 to set up a lot of LOS blocking stuff in between and corners and stuff. to make charging and shooting much harder.

So GWs rules is the Elite/Troop/Fast Attack, Some vehicles, and no psychic powers

Heralds or Ruin is like mini-dexes and are pretty sweet. RPG Elements for campaigns too. Also has the older races that aren't represented.

Something like this would be brilliant.

HoR is a million times better than GW. GW massively restricts you just based on having to use standard 40k unit buying structure. HoR creates it's own mini-dexes where you buy individual models, and also horde-army units sometimes travel in groups of five.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Agreed. The HoR rules massively improve Kill Team.
But regardless of what ruleset you use, you are going to need lots and lots of terrain. Kill Team games are no fun with little terrain. Try to use every piece you have. Optimal board size really depends on how many total points and how much scenery is on the table.

Yay! Killteam!

Yeah 4x4 works perfectly. I have a sectional in 2x2 pieces that is just awesome. You can even go 2x4 and deploy on the short edges for a streetlight style match.

As far as terrain goes, load that board up! The more terrain you have the more you have to think about positioning and lanes of fire. Considering that most Marines are going to be taking armour saves over cover saves there isn't much point trying to get into cover and the game can become a plinking match. If you block a lot of LoS then those Marines have to move around in order to shoot, and thus makes the game more fun overall.

Lots of terrain is your friend, no matter what armies are on the board

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.
