That will allow me to replicate this sort of thing..
Want to paint some traitor vehicles that haven't been chaos long enough to be massively corrupted, but want to represent iconography that's been hastily painted over loyalist symbols, slogans etc..

An airbrush will easily replicate spray can graffiti. It appears some of those use two colours, Do the back colour first then adjust the airbrush to spray smaller and do it with another colour over top. There's a few obvious spots where you just hold the airbrush in place so it overdoes it and causes paint to run down the side.

That, or make a stencil.
Freehanding it with an airbrush is probably your best bet though.

Brush freehand is easier; use an old brush that's lost its point, trim the tip 'flat' and use it nearly square to the surface. Works well for 'brush strokes' graffiti.

Yeah I'm noticing one of those is a brush on graffiti and I like the look of all those 'fingers'. Interesting, I tend to make any flat brushes into cat paws but I should make a brush for this so I can paint Ork glyphs on stuff. I'm gonna go with winterdyne's idea.

Freehand isn't amongst my strongest skills (although I'm better than I used to be) and I'm a bit of a gadgety painter, so if there were something out there that helped I'd want to give it a go. Automatically Appended Next Post: Although I do have a flat ended brush gathering dust..

No real gadget. Choices are decal (hard to do the White, and needs decent pc art skills), airbrush freehand (much more skill needed, as well as a reliable fine spray airbrush and paint mix), or brush freehand. For my time, the brush method is most efficient, just takes a bit of practice.

@Az,
I have to agree with Winterdyne that airbrush freehand is not easy at all, at the size you need in order to write graffiti on a tank. To replicate, just try to do it on a piece of paper. Loopy text is not bad, but even then, inch-tall graffiti that looks sharp is not easy. Plus, you don't want fuzzy edges; you want crisp edges, making it that much harder.
What I would do:
1. Take a soft pencil like a 2B and roughly sketch out what you want on the side of the tank. Don't press hard!!
2. Paint over it with a color that's in between the tank and graffiti color. So if it's chaos, and you want black letters on a red tank, use a darker red to cover the pencil. Use nice thin paint!!
3. Once you're happy with it, take the color you really want, and apply THIN coats of your chosen color along the edges, using either an angled or flat brush. Very important to keep this thin!
4. Paint inside the borders you just made using a flat or filbert until you achieve opacity. Again, keep it thin. That way, you won't be able to tell between the edges and the center.
5. Outline the edge using a round brush (you don't have to do this, but it looks good, and some of your samples have outlines); for example, with pallid wych or rakkarth. Don't over-thin the paint, as you want to do this in 1 coat, and pick a color that covers well and isn't too white (like rakkarth).
6. go back and use the dark color of the letter and the red color of your tank to fix any areas of the outline that aren't the right thickness; the trick to the outline looking good is a consistent size.
Good luck, and share the results!

Yeah, I was about to say, Snappy Stencils! Check out that eBay seller's listings. Everything from words and explosions to Banksy style commissar art. Also very useful ones for scales, brickwork and camo.
