I've been running this thought through my head for the last couple of months, and finally came to the conclusion that I am just not interested in Warhammer anymore. A lot of my reasons for losing interest are opinion-based (not interested in armies, ruleset, etc) and personally-based (not enough players, too many "winners", etc).
However, I was wondering if there were any other games that are worth looking into. I know some popular ones are Warhammer 40k and Warmahordes, but I really don't think I'm interested in those either..
I'm just hoping my interest in tabletop gaming hasn't come to an end..

Its a strange time for WHFB at the moment... Maybe age of sigmar might 're-kindle' the flame? I tried to jump into fantasy during 8th edition, but didn't really enjoy it so much so I bailed out fairly quickly - But I'm hoping to try again with AoS, which some of the rumours sound really exciting to me, especially if it totally shakes it up and makes even the most experienced fantasy player a total newb again - might level the playing field and increase the number of fantasy players...
Having said that the game I'm most interested in right now is Infinity. Where I have moved to a local gaming group is mad keen on Infinity and the rules and setting are really quite different from anything GW have produced - not to mention the game looks to be far more tactically interesting and varied... Plus the models for Infinity are absolutely stunning... Its also a D20 system rather than D6, and what geek/nerd can resist the siren song of a D20 ;-)

Infinity definitely looks promising.. I'll definitely look into it!

I'm really not that picky on preference and will literally play any game that sounds interesting.. Whether it be mass battle/small scale or fantasy/sci-fi
I guess what I'm looking for is that people name off or describe games that have really peaked their interest.. And as to why it did. Therefore, I could use the information provided to look into the game myself to see if I'm interested in playing it as well.

Infinity, deeply tactical, balanced, lots of fun. Awesome game mechanics and perhaps the most beautiful minis out there. Sci-fi skirmish.
Malifaux - western, steampunk, horror, samurai, zombies, etc. The best plastics on the market in my opinion. Amazing game with LOADS of character. Well balanced, lots of fun. Unique card system instead of dice. Works surprisingly well.
WMH (I know you said 'no,' but hear me out.) My favorite game of the three. Lots of fluff with rich stories. Great army balance, Very tight rules that allow a great variety of army styles. It's hard to judge this game without playing it.

You can grab the rules online, for free, provided by the company - very cool of them. They also sell a physical copy of the rule book, but don't force you to buy it if you can make do with a PDF copy (like using it on a tablet).

And they have a free army builder that can be printed out with all troopers stats and weapons. Good stuff.
Lowest cost of entry than any other game I've seen.
Edit: But the starter box is awesome.

Yeh the starter set is great. 14 metal minis, rule book, dice, gaming mat. Its a really good bargain... You could even buy one, choose the faction you like the most, sell the other on eBay and then use the money to buy more models for the faction you've kept. Could get a decent Infinity force together doing that for minimal cost.... BTW its a skirmish game so you'll generally only use a dozen or so models in most games...

If you want something to still scratch the Fantasy itch but just aren't getting on with WFB, Mantic's Kings of War might be worth a look. It's just about to have a second edition released, which clears up the (very few) issues with the first edition rules, and will have 'unofficially official' army lists for any Warhammer army you have. It's a fast-playing Mass Battles, great for games that would be too big even for WFB (you can easily play out the equivalent of a 3k WFB game in under 2 hours with KoW) and all the rules will always be free.
I'll second Infinity and Malifaux if your want something completely different, both have great rules and stunning minis. Deadzone, again from Mantic, is similar to Infinity but a bit less complex, and the minis aren't necessarily as good (although they're still nice).
LotR is cheap to get into these days and a great ruleset. It's basically abandoned by GW but has a great and growing community and thriving second hand market to get you going. Great minis for the most part too!

I'd cast a second vote for Kings of War. Simple and fun, without too many special rules or exceptions that have you turning to the rule book every few minutes. I found it to be really fun.
If you think smaller skirmishes might be your thing, keep an eye out for Frostgrave, due out in a month or two. The "nickstarter" (preorder) is underway here, if you're interested:
http://nstarmagazine.com/FROSTGRAVE.htm
It's d20 based, which is enough to get me interested. And it looks like a neat replacement for Mordheim. It's a campaign based system.

One more vote for KoW. You can download the rules for free today and play with your WHFB figures.
Most WHFB are already covered, but the word is that Mantic will be releasing Army lists that while still originating from their own "Mantica" gaming universe, will be clearly aimed at each of the WHFB armies.
Infinity is a very good option for a very different kind of game from GW or PP, but still has a good following.
Laslty, if you're looking to get off the beaten path, and try indie Fantasy skirmish consdider Frostgrave (coming soon) or Song of Blades and Heroes (the best $8 gaming PDF you will ever buy). Heck, you can use the same batches of figures in both games.

I almost had a heart-attack. Someone else knows this game! I love it - whenever I can find someone to play it with me.
For the OP - what has been asked is key: what -size- of game are you looking for? It sounds like 'any' size is good to you, as long as it's interesting, so you have a ton of choices.
I also highly recommend that when you google around to look at the games that have been mentioned here, check out the minis and see what grabs your eye. All of the games mentioned so far are pretty solid in my opinion, and picking up a game because it looks amazing is definitely not a bad way to make a choice.

We enjoy it, but only get to play it a few times a year since we usually do mostly warband skirmish size games. You can see our experiences with it here:

EDIT
Just realized you were talking about Song of Blades and Heroes!
We play that quite a bit and do a campaign every summer. Here's last year's campaign.

It's a bloody great game IMO, played it a few friends myself, I can also highly recomend Flying Lead, made by the same guys, same general system, love it.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard. |

I've played pretty much everything suggested here. Pretty much cannot recommend Infinity enough. Cheap, tactical, make more decisions in a turn then in an entire game of fantasy, totally fantastic. Some old sculpts are meh, all new stuff is absolutely amazing quality, but all in metal which can be a pain.
Warmahordes is a quality game, but has lots of meta gak going on - you can lose the moment you guys put your armies on the table - and you need to memorize a *lot* of unit rules. Many sculpts are poor and the price is high. Very powergamey. Rules are very solid and some really cool gak can go down.
Malifaux you need to memorize a lot of rules, even compared to warmachine. Very very (very) combo based, like magic the gathering on the tabletop. Great models, lots of character. Cheaper and better quality sculpts than Warmahordes. Aside from memorizing millions of rules and combo interactions the rules are great and the missions are well designed. Whoever said best plastic models around wasn't lying. Unfortunately I *hate* combo games so I don't play it any more.
Kings of War is what fantasy should be. More tactical - flank charges etc are very important instead of jack all. Honestly about 10x faster than Fantasy, you can get a full sized game done in an hour. Learn the rules 100% within two games. No removing ranks so you can multibase and its way less fiddly. Absolutely great game.
Song of Blades and Heroes is extremely generic ruleset but solid and can cover almost any premodern setting.

I would just wait until the Age of Sigmar thing comes out and wait about month after it comes out and decide if that will help you get back into it. It might make it a little bit more fun for you and maybe more players in your area will pick it up and it will be more fun for you.

I haven't experienced any of the games mentioned above, and to be honest I haven't even played WHFB. I play 40k and am in a similar boat in that I am starting to lose interest in my universe and am looking to branch out a bit. I can tell you this 40k is messed up at the moment. GW has lost all interest in producing a balanced game, and is driven entirely on selling models without looking at how the game is to be played. Every time they release a new update for a race either they are nerfed or considerably more powerful then the other factions So I would not suggest getting into it if you are interested in playing a well balanced game. If you are into the fluff and the modeling aspect I would say it's a fun game with lots to offer just don't be surprised if you get tabled a lot at the beginning (which I guess is to be expected with any new thing)

One other one you might consider is Hail Caesar/Black Powder; it's not a million miles from Warmaster - if anyone remembers that - but played with 28mm figures. It's by warlord games - who are essentially the old guard of GW - Priestly, Cavatore, etc - and has multipart plastics sculpted by the Perry twins, which are annoyingly beautiful.
The rules are pretty similar - Hail Caesar is romans-to-medieval, Black Powder civil war and napoleon.
It's good fun and is a lot less "dry rules and massive beards" than a lot of historical games - it feels much more like old GW games, and whilst there are plenty of army lists, there are suggestions for tweaking the stats and points to make something unique.
Alternatively, Bolt Action, WWII, from the same people, but that's more a 40k replacement.

From the sounds of things, I'm not so sure. I think your interest in the half-dozen big-name, all-in-one, buy-to-win, pickup-with-random-strangers games might be, though.

My best advice is to go to the FLGS and see what others are playing. Watch a few games and ask questions. Nothing worse then picking up a game and find out nobody plays it.
My top three choices for you to check out would be
1. Warmachine/Hordes. Great game, very well written rules, models looks are getting better in time ,and great support from the company
2. Xwing. Good rules, easy to play, don't have to paint, 100-150 points is usually played so your looking at a few ships with upgrades and almost everybody has heard to Star Wars
3. Bolt action if your looking to get into ww2. Awesome game mechanics, good balance, well supported by warlord games, low cost to play.
