Subject: How the Imperium is gonna accept a chapter missing for 2K years?

This is I was wondering the past few days (apologies if im in the wrong threads) because apart of my Ultramarines I'm launching a side project: Custom SM chapter. Part of it's lore is that their ship was sucked by a warp storm where they spent a week and when they are finally spited in the same place in the 41th millenium, just to realise they are missing for 2 millenia. The actuall question is - are they gonna be attacked or investigated by an Inqiusitor first? From my experience with the Fluff Inquisitors rarely even investigate Taint, they just point you and say "you are Tainted, now you die". Or, in an Imperium so vast no one keeps an record fo who dissapear and when.

If I am a IG colonel fighting orkz invasion and suddenly a Help arrive from an uknown chapter arrives I would not question who they are and why they help. But yeah, let's assume the Imperium knows this chpater as destroyed.

It would depend...
Look what happened to the tiger claws. A strike force returned from a mission only to find they'd been stuck in the warp for over fourteen hundred years. Their homeworld was gone and they were a myth to the imperium. Well their commander decided to go to terra and see about releasing their gene seed. He went missing... Some in the imperium felt they were best left forgotten. They were cursed founding after all... The survivors went to their parent chapter - the astral claws - for help. Long story short, it doesn't end well!
Then there are the carcarodons. During the badab wars, thry turned up from the depths of space to help the loyalists. There was no recird of their existence bar a handful of ancient scraps of after action reports and grainy pict-captures- it's assumed they were crusading far beyond the borders of imperial space. They bore ancient (but valid) vox call signs, their gene seed was acceptable and they were willing to fight for the emperor. They were welcomed, and after the war they disappeared into the depths of deep space again. They were utterly savage and merciless fighters, and would make the flesh testers and world eAters look like Boy Scouts, so their departure was not unwelcome...

my SM chapter has a very similar back story. they got sucked into the warp and when they eventually re appeared 90% of the chapter had mutations.
the chapter master decided he needed to cleanse his chapter to protect them from the inquisition, and allowed either an honourable death or exile to his tainted battle brothers. they then burned the records of the cleansing and the warp incident.
the imperium accepts them because as far as they know they are a loyalist chapter with no reason to doubt it. however the highloards of terra and the inquisition are very suspicious about the 250year gap in the chapters history and records.

Well my backstory is almost the same as yours - but no mutations. They been there less than a week. A bit like Astelan from the Fallen, but only 2k years time travel, not 10.

IMHO its up to you how the imperium accepts your chapters.
for me I play against a lot of imperium armies and fluff is an important part of the game to me so I am going with my chapter being an outcast that whilst accepted has many clashes with imperial forces who are suspicious of my chapters loyalty.
in the end its up to you, they could have proven their loyalty through a campaign against chaos or been sent on a suicide mission by the high lords of terra, if they survive they will have proven them selves, if they die then who cares!

Well the Imperium has been stagnant for quite a long time. 2k yrs might not be too long of a time that they'd have different social, political and religious views which would prevent them from continuing where they left off. Also the Imperium's bureaucracy is stupendously overgrown and bloated. A self perpetuating engine running on it's own momentum ceaselessly recording mountains of data that will never get looked at, just stored and forgotten.

Good hints, thank you all.
In my case they are gonna be goody-good guys that will try to catch up with other chapters, because they are lacking battle records, glory and fighting experience at all.
Edit: In addtion. If it's gonna be a biker based - hit and rune - chapter what doctrines it should be using: DA, Scars or ?

if your going for a vanilla chapter then use either white scars or one of the forge world ones that is very similar to DA but I cant remember which chapter it is

Maybe if you wanted to represent the suspicions of the inquisition add a inquisitor to your force maybe with some scions in a Valkyrie which would fit with the fast moving aspect. Or have a inquisitor and some death watch.

Long as they passed tests, had valid proof of what they claimed and the geneseed was who they said and pure.
A full battle ready chapter is not to be wasted, plus they could file against a archive of there founding held by a parent chapter too.
With work they could prove there existence

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |
