I've been offered to buy 8 Sslyths rather cheaply.

I'm just putting together my Dark Eldar army, and wonder if they are worth taking in such numbers?

There are a lot worse ways you could spend your points. They're not as good in an assault as grotesques, but have good shooting. For dark elder the are resilient having multiple wounds, 5+/5+fnp, and T5 I believe. It's a good place to put your warlord in, or you can actually count the unit as your warlord if you buy into such shenanigans.

I've never run that many, but Sslyth hit like a truck on the charge, are pretty dang survivable, and actually have a good gun besides, in the Shardcarbine. I can guarantee the first time you pop out of a Raider and assault something with them, you'll be glad you took them.

Some people swear by them in large numbers like that. If you have an offer in the cheap, go ahead. You can always use any excess as trade fodder with other DE players.

Ok, so I bought them, and got all 8 for 40$. Will run them with a medusa and perhaps an archon with a gate. Hope they're not duds

At $5 apiece you got a steal, even if you resell them. At that price, I'd be suspicious of counterfeits or recasts, even.

I had a unit of only 4 Sslyth and 1 Lhamaean shoot at, then charge 30 Orks boyz once. It only took 2 rounds of combat to kill all of them and I only took a few wounds (was able to spread out the wounds due to initiative steps and multiple rounds).

If you have 8, put them in a Raider with Splinter racks. Use them to turn units into mulch at range, but keep them near juicy targets to charge

They're real. Got them from a guy at the local gaming store who switches armies and systems every month trying to build weird armies etc. I even saw him purchase a few of them.

I am only a bit sceptical to investing time (to pain) and money in them because GW often discontinues models like these. (weir HQ court choices etc).

cant wait to experiment a bit with 2x4 or 1x8 unit of them etc. Love the heavy infantry feel they have with 2 wounds and t5.
