Has anyone tried the Space Wolves flyers? I'm thinking about getting one but it looks like it's pretty unable to be magnetized and switchable between the two versions.

I like the large blast StormFang, and it's Heavy Support, which doesn't compete in slots with my Drop Pods or Thunderwolf Cavalry. But I like that turret-mounted option on the StormWolf, as with Machine Spirit, that could turn and fire at something else (and thus potentially nail two Flyrants )

Stormwolf is just better. Stormfang has more limited arcs. SW has TL everything. Take it as a ded trans for a GH squad and it's obsec. Just better.

I agree with pretre, The large blast is the only thing the Stormfang has going for it. The lance on a single shot is nice, but I'd rather get within the 12 inch melta range on the 2 TL muliti-meltas. Also the wolf with multi-meltas, and lascannon is cheaper than the fang with the same load out.

I agree with the others. I've fought against space wolves many times, and that flyer is just nasty.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I like the Fang better and use it simply as a gunship.

Wolf does it better though and can be obsec, cheaper and hit more often. Unless you really like that large blast.

Wow, I hadn't thought of the dedicated transport aspect. Though I was thinking of putting my Culexus Assassin in there and just fly around blasting and shutting down enemy psykers, and assaulting them if needed.

I agree that firing arc is a really good addition to the Stormwolf. Maybe once I get the model I can figure out a switcheroo method for it.

I was also at first thinking the two Skyhammer Launchers would be better than the multi-meltas (more shots). But even at 24" it is a flyer and can get in range reasonably well of most things, and the MMs more easily wound/explode things, so yeah, I'm down with those.

The great thing is you point the mm and las at one thing and then fire the hellfrost behind you.

The Stormwolf is a great flier, especially if it's Flyrants that are bothering you. It absolutely forces them to jink or fly off the table, and isn't at all an ideal target for their weapons.

Last time I played against a Stormwolf I was running a pair of Flyrants as allies to my daemons, The damn thing killed both Flyrants in two turns. First one just failed all 4 of his jink saves, and the second took a wound from the helfrost weapon and went poof (or crashed to the ground frozen and shattered if you prefer). Obviously these are not average results, but it's got potential.

You can't go wrong with three twin-linked weapons and an AP3 large blast.

Coming in from reserves and knocking out one, possibly two targets is super.

Just because the SF is good doesn't mean the SW isn't better.
