As a long time gamer getting into X-Wing for the first time, I like the look of the TIE Interceptors and the Imperial Aces set. Aren't they just a pair of Interceptors? If I get the Aces, is there any reason to get the Interceptor? Or vise versa?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Their are different Pilots and cards in each set.
In the standard pack you get a generic PS 1, 3, and 4 Pilot plus Soontir Fel, Turr Phenir, and Fel's Wrath Pilots.
Upgrade cards are daredevil and Elusiveness.
The Aces pack gives you the PS4 generic and the following Uniques: Royal Guard, Carnor jax,
Lorrir, Kir kanos, and Tetran Cowall.
Upgrades include: Push the Limit and Shield (both are almost mandatory for Soontir fel..especially PTL), Opportunist, Hull Upgrade, Royal guard title, and Targeting Computer.
If your going to do Interceptors its best to buy 1 of each set. This gives you all the pilots and most of the upgrades you will need for them.

The standard interceptor box has Soontir Fel, the most important interceptor pilot. Imperial aces has everything else you need, except autothrusters (which are in the starviper).

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Cool. Thanks!

The one downside (to your wallet) to X-Wing is that a lot of your purchases will be driven by wanting a single card. For instance, there's no good reason to actually own a Starviper, except that's the only place to get the Autothruster card. In home/casual games, proxying is your friend though.

Well, their is that other site that sells stuff. Auto-Includes are going for 6-8 USD.
Regardless,,,its still a far site less expensive that other gaming hobbies. cough:40K :cough

I've just started playing myself, and while I love the game, I absolutely loath the card pilot and upgrade system. People like to give GW crap for being all about the money by cranking out codex remakes just after a year or so, but the card system for X-Wing is a bigger offender IMO. It effectively makes it impossible to stick to one faction unless you want to get taken by the card dealers on ebay. I'm genuinely surprised that counterfeit cards aren't a big thing for this game.

... why would you want to stick to just one faction? Flying the other side's ships is the best way to get used to them.

Perhaps not technically a Marine Chapter anymore, but the Flame Falcons would be pretty creepy to fight.

"Right. Well, did you at least use the burnas?"

"We tried, but the gits was already on fire."

Why would you counterfeit in this day and age when you can print a copy yourself? Only place I could see that being forbidden is a tournament. If your on a budget, just print out the cards you need - I believe you can get all the card images right off FFG's site.

It never ends well

This is what I meant by "proxying." Obviously, you'll need to buy a Raider to use Vader at a tournament, but otherwise you are free to just print off a few copies of whatever you need.
