The New Miss Macross!
|
Some tau fans took the simple absence of larger robots and decided on their own to fill in the blanks and decree that the tau won't use larger robots. Every argument about the impracticality of larger robots applies equally to the impractically of the smaller existing ones (if bipedal is worse than quadriped, when are the crisis suits bipedal? Or better yet just small armored skimmers themselves?) but yet that fact escapes them. They try to throw in science and physics to justify an opinion they formed independent of GW's fluff to a world involving robots, aliens, psychic powers, and supernatural creatures... because somehow only the first one needs to be grounded (pun intended) in their selective application of facts while the others get to skate by.
There is a difference between the tau not using larger robots (previously true), can't use larger robots (somewhat true according to the riptide fluff), and won't use larger robots (never been true and completely made up by fans).

I would be okay with big robots if they didn't look so friggin' ridiculous. To me, the broadside kit is the coolest looking "big robot" they have. The riptide looks pretty cool too but its giant stubby gun with more guns on it is just silly. This new thing just takes it to absurd levels.

I doubt I'll ever own one since I don't play Tau, but this model is beautiful and makes my inner `Mech-lover squee in delight.
The Tau got bloodied pretty badly by some Knights titans on Damocles, so maybe they took lessons to heart from that campaign and decided to make their own big-stompy robots? That is about all the fluff I need to embrace this model.

That's exactly the reason they're developing the KX139

I was just thinking that this model could be really cool.
Take the back guns completely off. Upsize the head 50-100% reduce the wird stick out chest so that it goes starts at the edge of the head cowel. Take off the nipple guns, and just continue the plating. Make the top have internally stored, slanted upwards facing missile pods. It would look much better then.

20 people all have their own idea of what would look cooler. Meaning none of them would likely be able to make one cooler.

I'm surprised that no one commented on that the guys behind this thing at Forge World are also planning on a new Tau tank in the scale of an Orca.
If this is the "Great Strength, Great Strike" version of a Crisis Suit/Broadside, I am scared for what the Hammerhead Gunship version will be.
or
I'm expecting it to look something like this, but without legs.

The issue is not the Tau evolving and thinking of new weapons, it's the Tau evolving and thinking of stupid weapons. Giant anime robots are a step back from the things the Tau already had, and the Tau are supposed to be the one faction that doesn't do stuff like that.

Why does everyone feel the need to insert "anime" in there?
This thing looks more like something from Armoured Core than it does a Gundam or Patlabor, and there is almost nothing more Evangelion-like in 40k than an Imperial Knight.

I think Wraithknights look the most like Evas, but yeah.
This new mecha for the Tau looks silly because it has those three huge railguns on the back (three? seriously?) and the missiles pods have burst cannons attached to them. It's not stupid just because it's a big huge robot. That's immaterial to my opinion. I like big huge robots. I do not like big huge robots with stupid and illogical weapons choices.

Not so much in appearance, but Knights and Evas are both single-pilot mechs controlled by a mental interface that run off batteries and have a single shield as their special gimmick.
Although they seem to have retconned the batteries thing now. ><

Eva's aren't actually mechs - they have armor plating not to protect but to contain a clone of an angel inside. Come on now!

According to the designers, they have a Tank in the works as well, following the same concept/doctrine of the suit.

Ill be honest. the SM transport looks like what a Gorgon wants to be....
It should be transporting IG into the fray not SM who should be in faster Rhinos or drop pods. Heck If I wanted a unit named the Mastodon I would want a giant 4-legged titan that would resemble the Mk 2 Mammoth!!

If this thing is able to put out 3 D shots , then this would make tau have a better shot against other apoc units that IoM has and what not.

I would expect it to put out 3 str d large blast shots. I hope they don't make another underwhelming tau vehicle in this current "golden" age of apoc every game whether you want it or not 40k.

You should turn the dongles on the ion cannons into pulse rifles because science and add the glaringly missing eye beam of death (strength D, assault d6, range: damocles gulf). Otherwise, I approve of this change for the greater good.
